Transfer part of Cash Isa to a Stocks & Shares Isa?

Can anyone advise if it is possible to transfer part of a cash isa to a stocks and shares Isa?

I have money in a cash isa but want to transfer approx 2/3rds of it to a stocks and shares isa but am not sure if it's possible to only transfer part of it.

Many thanks if anyone can advise.

In theory it's possible but in practice it isn't. Whoever has your money doesn't like to part with it ! Maybe a way around would be to move a third of it to a different ISA cash account with the existing provider e.g. a 1 year fixed term; and then you could transfer the remainder. The existing provider might be more ameniable to that so long as you don't tell them you will be transferring the remainder.

There actually shouldn't be a problem at all. Most Stocks and Shares transfer in forms that I've seen have the option to transfer all or a specified part of an ISA to a new provider. You fill that in and send it to the new provider and they should take care of the old provider for you.

Providers of ISAs aren't obliged to allow partial transfers and most don't. Unlike Aegis, I have rarely seen the ability to specify a transfer amount on an ISA transfer form - National Savings has it I think.
  • I don't like them but I transfered half my balance away from a Halifax ISA account no problems. ;)
