Hi guys,
OK I have a laptop that died on me. I took the hard drive out. I now have a new laptop and want to transfer the old data into the new laptop. My old laptop had Outlook which I used everyday and so has emails going back to 2007. I need them. Problem is, once I set up Outlook on my new laptop, I could only see emails going to the early this morning. How do I get all those emails back, along with meeting invites etc??
I am really hoping it is possible to do this? Will PC world’s PC tech guys be able to help me with this do you think?

have you got a caddy to put the harddrive in?
you can purchase one off ebay for about 4 quid.
was the harddrive or login passworded?
once you have caddy pop it in and it will come up as a usb drive, from there you navigate to Windows\Application Data\Outlook Express\ etc untill u find the .dbx files, copy all them.
the go to outlook express on new pc and settings, find maintenace and store folder.
copy the store location and paste into explorer. that should bring up current emails etc... if u do not need them just paste the old files we copied earlier overwriting the new, close outlook and open again and it should be how it was before with all old emails
tech guys may do but it would cost. any probs lemme know as i do this kinda thing all the time .0 -

Yes thats one. You should be able to mount your old drive as an external USB (assuming the caddy is the correct type for your drive).
The file you are looking for is Outlook.pst, and will be in Documents and Settigs\[Your Old Username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
You should be able to import it directly into your new Outlook by selecting File >import >from another file >personal folders file >[then browse to it]0 -
thanks guys. it worked!QUIDCO £2827 paid out since October 2007:D0

Hi! Now need to work out how to transfer all my other documents and files from my old hard drive to the new laptop. i am assuming a simple copy and paste might do. please let me know if there is a better and safer wayQUIDCO £2827 paid out since October 2007:D0

You should just be able to copy and paste documents, pictures, music, favorites etc to the same relative location on the new laptop.
If you have any downloaded/purchased music, the licence could be a bit more tricky.
Out of interest, are you making regular backups of your data - if the hard drive of the old laptop had failed (which is not that uncommon) then this could have been a whole different story.0 -
yes, i back up once a month at the office. i just copied and pasted all my files. easy peezy!QUIDCO £2827 paid out since October 2007:D0
