If your hard disk was reformatted then the previous drivers are gone. I have XP's own zip file handler disabled - I use 7-Zip - but could it be that you're are looking inside the zip file with Windows Explorer? You need to unzip/extract the file - sound-20080604150421.zip - that you downloaded and then run setup.exe. You'll need to reboot the PC when you've finished.
They were winzip files Im downloading what you said now, getting a bit confused now though
Thanks for you help will let you know what happened

Ahhhh Ive done all that switched off and still nothing

Help !!! please0 -
A newer version is already running? That's interesting as the only XP sound driver I can see is that one. There are a few more for Windows Vista and Windows 7.
Looking in the zip file at readme.txt it says that the drivers require at least DirectX 8.1 to be installed. If you click the Start button and click Run, could you type in DxDiag and press Enter. At the bottom of the window that appears it should say which version of DirectX you have installed. If nothing happened when you pressed Enter then you'll need to download DirectX. Windows XP only uses versions of DirectX before 10, so you want version 9.0c. Hopefully, you already have it installed.
Okay, Karen, this is a couple of years old but hopefully it's the solution:

If you have sp3 installed, then you still have missing drivers, so need to install them properly, and go through all the yellow question marks in device manager, and download the drivers from Toshiba for them!!

Oh Ive just tried i player and I had sound, I had turned the volume up on utube but there was nothing?0

My guess is either a flash problem - (if you have a different browser try that, or reinstall flash), or a problem with youtube itself - I've also had intermittent lack of sound on youtube.!!
