In that case I would go to the website for your manufacturer and download the latest audio driver and install them.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

If you can tell us the make and model of your laptop, along with the version of Windows that you're running, we can probably track down the audio chipsets' drivers for you.0

thanks,
its a toshiba satellite L30-113 with windows xp, ive tried downloading it from toshiba but nothings changed
Thanks for your help0 -
Hi, when you go into Device Manager do you have a yellow question mark next to the audio??0

ok then it should be as simple as double clicking it/right clicking for properties and then updating the driver that way so it searches the internet for the right one
the other option is windows restore
when I right click it says software could not be found, Ive not had any sound since my pc was reformatted so would restore work?0 -
Did you actually install the sound drivers from the Toshiba website, if you did, and it's still not working, you might need this
ftp://ftp.microsoft.com.ar/so/KB888111/eng/kb888111xpsp2.exe!!

If your hard disk was reformatted then the previous drivers are gone. I have XP's own zip file handler disabled - I use 7-Zip - but could it be that you're are looking inside the zip file with Windows Explorer? You need to unzip/extract the file - sound-20080604150421.zip - that you downloaded and then run setup.exe. You'll need to reboot the PC when you've finished.0
