Crikey, a joint £100k salary would go down well at our house at the mo! I'm about as broke as I have ever been due to our house renovations. TBH I was excited about doing the work before we moved in and now I'm sick of the whole thing. :/

PS.On LIR's washing machine scale we're wealthy, but if one lives with mud and carp as part of the daily routine, more emphasis goes on this area. Put it another way, would you use the same machine for your clothes and the ferret bedding?:rotfl:

It s slightly tongue in cheek, the scale.

We have two washing machines.....animal and human. :o (animal one was old one which was updated when my parents had the kitchen done and had a built in one...)

Isn't it a bit cruel to put animals in a washing machine?

any more cruel than putting humans in?
  • The three Ls, no, not location, location, location.... but:

    - location
    - luck
    - licking the right 4rses :)

Definately the case in my workplace.Full of mangers who are absolutely clueless and can't make a decision to save their lives. They have so much brown stuff on their hooters it is still dripping. It seems the thicker you are, the higher you climb here.[/QUOTE]

Completely with you there. 4rse licking appears to be the answer. At least thats how the majority get there I feel. If I lined up all the managers, senior managers and directors at my last place and put them through a few exams I could confidently say that 80% would fail:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Hmmm...yes, £100k would be just lovely at the moment. We had a brief period of £70k+ (DH had lots of o/t and I was working full time in a good job) and it was very comfortable. Having experienced that compared to our current £30k (plus BTL but all income plus £350 pm goes to mortgage on BTL) I can say that anyone who is on £100k+ and complaining needs something shoved up the ******YSWIM:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Now lets just hope the PBR is good to us average...or is it comfortable? middle working class.

Just as an aside, I find it very hard to believe there are 2.5 million families with household income in six figures.

Perish the thought that one might reveal financial information when asking financial advice on a financially related website.

I think it's still considered quite vulgar in Britain to discuss your salary (not so in other countries, inc the USA). I would never dream of asking my friends who graduated at the same time as me what they're earning.

On the other hand, we do as a nation seem quite obsessed with very vulgar displays of wealth from the new era of talentless-but-rich celebs, especially those whose job description is "married to a footballer".

At the moment, being able to live in a nice flat in a nice part of town, having a good social life, holidays and being able to save each month into a respectable nest egg leaves me feeling, not "rich" but comfortable I suppose.

When I first moved to London I was on a rubbish salary and budgeted very tightly. There was a certain paygrade at which, on spying something I wanted in a shop, I just bought it rather than thinking "ah, but I've spent my £x for this week so I can't have it." That was a good moment.
    They are an EYESORES!!!!
