Help please on computer problem

Hi,

We keep getting a box popping up on any random website asking for user name and password details, we have not filled this in but it just keeps appearing again and again. It says something like a DSL error, when you click the x to get rid of it, it takes you to a black page with 401 error and you are not authorised to access this page.
It happens on the main computer and our 2 lap tops.
Can someone help with how to stop this and why its happening please..

I have tried to do a screen shot but dont know how to show it here.

  • I'm no expert but I would guess it's something to do with your broadband setup. Who is your ISP?

  • Hi,

we are with Sky... just worried in case its something nasty after log in details. Its ask for the details even on site that dont require a user name and password..

It happened on FaceBook one day and my son had heard that it was some kind of scam?

Sounds like it could be related to your router possibly requesting the configuration credentials. Is your router successfully connected to the internet?
You could use any of the free image hosting websites to host the screenshot of the error/popup, tinypic, imageshack are free, upload the pic to the site and you will have a URL generated once the pic has been uploaded successfully, you can then post that URL in this thread.

If you are worried it's a scam don't put in your username or password.

You could try logging directly on to the router and checking your details there. If you are lucky it will just be a typo

There are attacks that can request your router administrator details, it's a URL that is generated that targets specific models of routers (router hijacking). I'd recommend scanning the PC's with anti virus as well as anti malware scanners like super anti spyware or malwarebytes

  • Hi,
we have Macafee anti virvus and the other day i downloaded the malware and ran that, half way though it i managed to knock the keyboard and stopped it, it had picked up a few things which i said to delete but it took out something that i had been using on the computer to rid it of errors. I will try running it through again and leave it while i have to go out as it looks like it will take ages to do all the computer..
Thanks for the advice so far

Have you ever done business with labels online? Have you logged into any resources hosted by labelsonline, maybe a mapped drive in the past? It looks like there is something triggering the PC to try to connect to that site. Still looks suspect though, I'd still recommend scanning with the anti malware software I posted above as well as check the default home pages in the browsers, hosts files as well as router settings (DNS especially)
  • The labels on line showed because i was on that website at the time, it changes the name to whatever website i am viewing at the time, earlier it said moneysavingexpert, but it is appearing on random sites i am viewing.

Still running the malware scan beeen running so far for an hour and 47 mins and has detected one item

What browser are you using? I'm guessing Internet Explorer. If you use a different browser like Firefox do you still see pop ups? I think this might have something to do with your browser settings, if you reset all the browser settings to defaults does that help?
