Tips on cleaning Astracast Rok sink please?

Hi all

I have an Astracast Korona Rok dark grey metallic finish sink that is 6 years old. It is looking really tired and shabby, it looks dull and dusty and has scuff marks along some edges plus a small rust mark in the bottom of the bowl. It needs more than soapy water to clean it but I need to know what I can use that will restore the finish without causing damage. I feel like it needs something like the T-Cut that is used for cars - is there a similar product for these type of sinks?

I have to say I am very disappointed in how this sink has aged so quickly. I have a dishwasher so it hasn`t been heavily used or abused and I don`t have hard water here. I have lived in several houses throughout my adult life and have used sinks made from stainless steel, white ceramic and various composite/resin styles and none of them have ended up looking this shabby so I don`t feel I am to blame.

Please can anyone suggest how I can spruce up this sink? I don`t really want to buy another sink atm as it would mean buying new worktops too and I would be very reluctant to buy another Astracast just to fit the cutout hole as it would end up just as shabby in a few years.

Thanks for reading, hoping someone can suggest a solution.

The Astracast Granite ROK sinks are guaranteed for 20 years, the cleaning instructions that came with the sink should be followed, for further advice ring their Customer Aftersales dept. 01924 351222
  • Thanks for the reply. I will contact them to see if they can suggest a product that could retore the finish of the sink. I had thought about the guarantee, but having googled and found cases where their sinks have actually cracked they have accused the owners of impact damage or even standing in the sink I don`t think they will be interested in my shabby sink. Especially as although ugly and shabby looking it is so far still in one piece so usable.

I certainly won`t be buying Astracast next time
  • You need to use a product called barkeepers friend on a regular basis. It can be bought in a number of the main supermarkets. I got a free sample when i bought a granite sink from sinks-taps.com and it work great! Its a white powder that you rub/scrub on with a small amnount of water. Give it a go, it really does work well!
  • oooh, thanks for that tip! I actually have some Barkeeper`s friend in a box of odd `cleaning-things-that-I-have-bought-but-never-used` so I`ll dig it out and give it a good scrub.

    Cheers

  • use something quite abrasive like a small scouring pad with the barkeepers on. You cannot damage the sink and it works alot better than just using a smooth cloth.
  • Good afternoon: big fan of the Barkeepers range...recommended and sold by.......Astracast;)

  • Andrew-B I think you will find that I recommended barkeepers friend which cost about £5 from any supermarket and not a new sink! The fact that I did suggest a friend from sinks-taps to create a user so he could get involved with answering technical queries has got nothing to do with you or trying to sell products.
  • Having taken the advice found on this forum to use Barkeeper's Friend to clean my Astrocast sink, I'd like to pass on another top tip. I found my sink was still very dull and only looked nice when wet. Remembering the top tip of using a very small amount of baby oil to take marks off stainless steel hobs, I tried some on the sink. It came up beautifully and now looks like new. Should it begin to mark again I will simply use the Barkeeper's Friend and then reapply the baby oil. :T
