Further to my reply above :

    Go to :
    http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/freeviewhelp/indooraerial.html
Read the second section "Can I get Freeview on indoor aerial" and then click on "Check Coverage at Wolfbane".
You will then be able to see which type of aerial you are most likely to need for your post code.
Have checked it with mine and the answer was correct.

    Hope this helps.
  • Thanks guys,

I Looked around and most of the houses around have external roof antenna or sky dish. I called up a professional aerial installation company to get a quote. He came and said we need an external antenna in this region and he quoted me £169.99.

Hence I decided to go with sky - they have an offer for free setup box and free installation, though monthly charge of 18 pounds with a contract of 12 months.

I'm reluctant to tell you this but 12 x £18 comes to more than £169.99.

And that's just per year. The aerial has no ongoing cost.
The OP could go for Freesat instead, say £150 all in for the dish/LNB install and a Freesat box.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I agree with macman - Freesat gives you a slightly different mix of channels to Freeview (no Sky News or Sky 3) but gives you a few extra minority interest and old-film channels. You also get ITV HD and BBC HD - although this is coming along on Freeview shortly, provided you change your current tuner.

But it is free, other than the initial aerial and box purchase. On my particular set (Panasonic with built in Freesat) I can also get all the non-subscription channels that come off the Astra satellite as well - not sure if that applies to add-on boxes, but probably does.
