Have to confess teenage children used to download illegally until I found out! they now have a monthly contract for downloads although I prefer them to buy CD's...call me old fashioned but I like to be able to hold my purchases!..do tend to buy CD's on-line0

I usually download illegally to check album out, then if need be I can select only the tracks I want to buy.
If its a keeper I always download a legal copy, if not I bin it.
Would be great if you could do this legally, maybe download the entire album so you can listen to it for free for a couple of days or something and then you have to pay for the tracks/albums you want to keep. No idea how it would work but woulod be nice.0 -
Depends what you like, I guess. I have a pretty varied taste in music & listen to a lot of Japanese stuff, which I download legally (far as I'm aware) via the Jpopsuki tracker, as it is unlicensed (& usually unavailable) in the West.
A lot of the other stuff I like is pretty obscure & I often have no luck finding it via legal download sites, at which point I may turn to Isohunt if the CD is over-priced or unavailable.
I tend to use Lastfm to check out new music (the videos section is good for hearing full songs), as this is a good way to legally find things you will like.
As for TV & movies, I tend to watch what I can online, but never download anything.Life is a waste of time.

Get wasted all the time,
And you'll have the time of your life!

I'm surprised that an MSE poll equates paying with legality. Surely MSEers are enthusiastic legal free downloaders?
Also, I'm disgusted that MSE still uses "piracy" for downloading music without paying the publishing oligopoly (how many millions did EMI make from music in the UK last year?). That's not piracy. Piracy is the deadly stuff off the coast of Somalia. Failing to pay Warner or whoever isn't anywhere near the same.0 -
I always download legally off Amazon - occasionally I dont pay if a I have an e-voucher from Lightspeed or sometimes Amazon give me a free quid or so as I buy a LOT of downloads on there!!*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200

Why dont you just use 'Real Player' tool to download music videos for free from youtube??
Its fully legal, takes merely a few seconds, and means they are on your computer for you to play whenever you want.
I never understood why on earth anyone would pay to download music, or pay money to buy a cd with just a few dozen songs on it,
as the thought of people doing that just always seemed ridiculous and foolish to me,
when its there for free.0 -
no i just use spotify for now.0

I don't think you are going to get too many people admitting copyright infringement on a public forum.:rotfl:
Downloading or uploading copyrighted data is not a crime as such(not a police matter)but is just a civil matter, this is why the media companies sue people instead of calling the police0
