Just a thought but has anyone who's card has been used fraudulently got it registered on Egg Money Manager?
My Barclaycard was used on foreign gambling sites a few weeks back and its just crossed my mind that I had it listed on Egg Money Manager to get the £10 bonus and wondering now if this is how they breached my security?0 -

I've just received a letter from Barclaycard fraud department stating they have blocked a transaction on my card.
Logged into my account online and states there is a transaction of £5 on 1837online.com website and another pending transaction for just over £400, both of these transactions I did'nt make.
Rang Barclaycard and they have stopped the card and told me to destroy it. They also said the blocked transaction was for about £1400. They are going to send me a form that I have to fill in and send back for the £5 and the pending transaction.
I hope I'm not liable for these unauthorised transactions. I also have my card stored in Egg money manager.
Any advice appreciated.Nobody is more persuasive than a good listener.0 -
trippy wrote:I had a bizzare thing happen to me. I was living in Spain, had my bag stolen, cancelled the card which was then reissued and sent to my UK address. Even though the new card was sitting on the doormat in the UK, envelope unopened, the reissued card was being used in Spain at the tolls! Explain that one! The card issuer refunded all transactions.
Trippy this also happened with my barclaycard. The original one was stolen in barcelona and cancelled pretty much straight away; a couple of months later I find I have no credit left due to transactions from spanish toll roads.
It was explained to me that the toll road machines lacked the necessary security measures to detect a cancelled card so the old card was being used and the transactions were flowing onto my account and new card. While getting this sorted I spoke to several Barclaycard staff who were unaware that this could happen. I got the transactions refunded but it took a couple of months.0 -

Hi there.
This happened to me with a Smile credit card about 12 months ago. Had a call from Smile to query some transactions. They asked me the last time and where I'd used the card. The operator said oh ok we've got 18 transactions in the last 24 hours in dollar amounts which add up to £900 odd. I said OK well that certainly wasn't me. They cancelled the card immediately had a new card (and number) within 3 days and the transactions were refunded within about a week. Thumbs up for Smile.0 -
While abroad on Holiday, some muppet was busy buying kit on a cloned amex card of mine back here in the UK in Richer Sounds, 2 transactions later totalling over £5950 GBP I only chanced across it while checking my card on the internet. Skipped a heartbeat in the process too!!
Makes you wonder how prudent the retail staff were in letting such high value goods to go out the door without doing a decent security phone call checks with the card provider.....or more likely, a (dodgy) staff member was in on it!!
Phoned Amex straight away whose security measures never picked up the completely out of character transactions, bearing in mind I had been using the real card for the previous 8 days while sunning it up abroad! All transactions were appearing in tandem with each other but taking place 7000 odd miles apart so made me me wonder how good Amex security measures really were !
Anyhow, turned out quite rosey, as on returning to UK, new cards were en route to me, filled in some security type paperwork,....refund was made around 2 weeks later along with a further £35 made to cover international mobile phone costs telling them about the dodgy activity (*cough - £18 actual! - cough*). Best of all - I was credited with the Air Miles of the fradulent spend, so it put me on route to taking another holiday...nice!

Could i get some advice? My partner has just noticed over £1000 for frauldulant transacions make on his card in April. Hes had a lot of money problems and was just throwing away his statements without look at them.
What are the chances of us getting this money back? We have phoned egg straight away and are waiting to hear back from the security team.
I know hes been stupid not checking and for not noticing but do we have a leg to stand on?:dance:0 -
What date in April?
Some cards will only entertain claims within 90 days of the transaction hitting the account.
How could he throw Egg statements away? they don't send any do they it's all online.0
