She also said it destroyed her kitchen though.
  • I always laugh when I get called out to a washing machine which, according to the customer had "burst into flames" and invariably, either the motor has burnt out or the pcb has a component burnt out on it.

There is usually a tiny scorch mark on one of the components, or a blacckened motor winding.

Now I wouldn't say that it is an impossibility for a washing machine to catch fire, but in 20 years, I've never seen one do that and I do 2,500 visits to appliances per year!

So, the "before the flames took hold" bit might be a bit over dramatic!

However, the manufacturer would almost certainly carry out the repair FOC as long as you have proof of purchase date. Either that or call out an engineer who can assess the fault for you. Many pcb modules are under £50 so it shouldn't be overly expensive.

Um, no, she said her partner got to it before the flames took hold ands destroyed the kitchen. BEFORE it destroyed the kitchen.

    Come on people!

Apologies, for some reason I read "got my OH to see it before the flames took hold" not "got my OH to see to it before the flames took hold"

It says 'see to it', not see it - so I read it as he sorted it before any of that happened. Sorry, I don't think it was unclear.

    You're right - I responded before/as you changed it.

  • i understand how you feel OP,

a couple of weeks ago we had a right weekend of it. first our wachine machine broke, then our boiler developed a leak and then a major roof leak (which we have to have replaced and are currently doing so)

these things ar sent to try us, normally at the same time and just before chrimbo!

    LOL I like you!
    You are correct!

Paid by debit card for machine so no Section 75, and home insurance has quite a high excess because it is specialist insurance as ny house is non standard build.
Ended up buying a new one.

To the engineer that said he didn't think it likely a WM could catch fire, cos you'd never seen one in 20yrs, my DD's schoolfriends house burnt almost to the ground from a WM fire when her mum went out and left it on! I suspect the reason that you've not been called to one that has been actually on fire is because they would usually be seen to by a Fire Officer, bit beyond an engineer repair when they've melted the house down lol
It never even crossed my mind to have it fixed actually, I would never be sure that it wouldn't happen again. Too much of a risk for me

Re Windows, they were manufactured and sold by the same company so no comeback there either!

Ho hum, hopefully nothing else will go wrong now! Have just done repairs to my neighbours house after my trampoline took flight and crashed into their porch, but anyway thats another thread lol

So, she is no better off than if she let the flames get hold, because her partner has now destroyed the kitchen. Why would he do that?
