Hazard lights

Hazard warning lights are not essential.
Your simplest/cheapest option could be to gain access to the back of the switch and disconnect then tape up all the wires."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Unfortunately, I am not familiar with your car.
If you can get your hand up behind the dash, you might not need to get the switch out.
Addition: I found replacement switch for you on e Bay, see new post."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Does this look like yours?
Please see this e bay item > http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/VOLVO-02-S40-Hazard-Emergency-Light-Lamp-Switch-2002_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2c51b52eedQQitemZ190349389549QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessoriesIf you have a handbook it ought to tell you where to locate the realy for the hazard lights. This is usually under the bonnet and easily accessible. Hopefully it may be a push fit item and you simply pull it out = job done."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Have a look for your fuse box. Under the lid there should be a list telling you which fuse is which. You might find that the hazard lights their own fuse. Then it would be a case of simply pulling that fuse.
Very pleased to help. :T"A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
