Hi
Please can someone notify me if i have any comeback, i had a bank account with my ex which i used to withdraw money for our son ( sometimes with or without my ex's agreement !!), after drawing out a large amount of cash which my ex wasn't really happy about but as a joint account holder he didnt have a leg to stand on. Imagine my surprise when 6 months later i go into the bank to check the balance as i am due to take out some more cash and i was told the account had been closed.
when i advised them that i had not given any permission for the account to be closed NOR had i signed anything NOR had i recived even a letter notifying me that the account was closed the staff when extremely quiet and looked very uncomfortable. I then asked for then to get the manager to contact me with an explaination in writitng so i could take it further . that was 4 weeks ago and i have heard nothing.
What are my rights? it has caused me financial hardship as this was a way of getting support money for my son and this avenue has now been closed. do i have a case for the ombusman/ compensation.

When i closed a joint account, it was not necessary to have both parties agree to it. Was there any money in the account when it was closed? This should be frozen if either party wants to close the account (although he could have withdrawn any money first (the same way that you did to him). Was it definitely a joint account and not a single account with an additional card?
It sounds like you used the account in a morally abusive way (by withdrawing large amounts of cash without telling your ex.
It isn't the bank who has put you in hardship, it is your ex. Have you tried speaking to him about it. I think he is quite wise in closing the account. If he refuses, the CSA (does it still exist) will be the route to go down.
As you said about your ex, you dont have a leg to stand on!!0 -
Let me get this straight. You had a joint account wth your ex which you decided to basically empty out without your ex's knowledge and you're now surprised that he's closed the account. Are you for real. :rolleyes:0

So to clarify
Your ex set up a joint account with funds for your son, you were meant to take agreed sums at agreed intervals, you abused this, your ex closed the account.
Can you tell me exactly what your problem is? Its your own fault.
No one will give you access to an account for ease if your going to abuse it and steal.
Also the large sum you withdrew. How much was this? and what was it used for?0 -
He only did what you wanted to do.
He has closed the account to stop you taking money as and when you liked without his agreement.
You need to make a proper arrangement with him for money for your child.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

But you just said in your opening post that you withdrew a large amount of cash and your ex wasn't happy?
Have you checked the banks terms and conditions for account closure before you complain about HSBC as you might find that they can actually do this?0 -

Well firstly either party can close the account or have it converted to a single account with the others agreement
Any correspondence would go to the prime address, most likely your ex if he had any sense
Your issue with the bank is non existent, your only issue should be with your own morals.
Due to the fact you decided to steal from the account you have made the relationship even more difficult and also possibly caused financial implications for your son. The CSA will probably give you less. Give yourself a pat on the back.0 -
Do you have a contact address for this account or does all correspondence still go to your partner's address?0

Please read post , this is not about my ex it is about hsbc closing a joint a/c without notifying me.
I did not abuse it , we had a disagrement about something else and then i find the a/c in closed i'm not here for a lecture about the csa i am welll aware of how much a complete waste of time that is what i want some advice on is if hsbc have acted unlawfully by closing the account0 -

Yes you did abuse it. You admitted so in line 1. Joint account or not what you admitted to is theft.
And its perfectly legal what HSBC have done.
Now move on and find someone else to scam or steal from. Maybe your ex could go for full custody based on the fact your a thief
I'll bet the lump sum was spent more on you than your son.0
