Freeview with no roof-arial ?

Hiya

we have no roof arial. Downstairs we have cable TV, but because of the layout of the house we didn't want to have it installed upstairs. We are renting, so we cannot just have holes drilled all over the place and we cannot get a roof arial installed. The TV upstairs currently works on a set-top arial. Will that work for Freeview ? I don't want to buy a freeview box and then find out that we cannot receive it. We seem to have pretty good reception from the set-top apart from channel 5, which is still watchable but not brilliant.

The only thing you can do is borrow one and try it. As you say, it depends where you are.

we have freeview in 2 of the bedrooms and the only ariel is on top of the tv-definitely no connection to a roof ariel

It may or may not work. My aunt used a set top aeriel in her kitchen with a Freeview box and it worked well. When she moved the same Freeview box through to a bedroom with a set top aeriel it didn't work as well - she did get some channels but not others.
