I have just had my mobile phone unblocked over xmas and can now put a different sim card in my phone, whichever is the cheapest, the problem is everybody has my original number in their directories. Is it possible to keep my original phone number with my present mobile company and when i use a different sim card to have the original number transfered to whatever sim card i use without losing that number when i go back to using the phone company i was unlocked from? ::)

No, the number is associated with the SIM. You could divert the phone to your new SIM, but you'd probably waste more money than you save. If you settle on one new SIM you could always port your number if you're out of contract?0

just ask your current provider for a PAC code and give that to your new provider...you number will then move with you. The only downside is that O2 for example treat it as another network still and charge cross network rates...Ex forum ambassador
