Finally got through to them yesterday afternoon.

2000 paper licence had name change (provisional) paper licence updated and back
2004 paper licence replaced, was stolen new photo card was issued.(provisional)
2006 photo licence provisional to full licence.

They gave me all this information on the phone.

So in theory it should be 10 years from 2004, but alas the person on the phone was adamant that it stood from 2000, when i changed name on my paper provisional in 2000.

Fortunately i can go to the local office, to hand my licence and money, but my updated licence will be posted, normal royal mail post, not signed for unless i pre pay for that.

  • I have the same photograph on my full drivers licence that I had on my provisional that (according to my licence and which sounds about right) was processed by the DVLA on 27-12-2000 which means my photograph expires in December 2010 regardless when I sat my driving test and all my details *including photograph* were moved onto a full licence.

I just changed my address an my phot portion, only to find out that I will need to renew the picture in 6 months, wished the DVLA could have thought about it and told me, would have given a recent picture.

They are just a machine and have no thougt process.
I all have learnt is from others on many sites.
    Seek legal help if unsure.
Dont pay Private Parking tickets - they are mere invoices.

    PRESS THANKS

anyone know where I can download the D798 form? Maybe I missed it but I can't see it anywhere.

I live abroad so can't exactly pop into the post office to pick up a form

Got my form to renew photo licence. The DVLA want to update THEIR records so want to charge ME £20 for the privilege of doing so. If they want their data updated then it should be free! Another stealth tax!!
  • Hi Loco,

I'm in the same situation and haven't found anywhere to download a D798. One would assume the DVLA or Govt. would make it available but nah, that's too easy!

Let me know if you have any luck.

    Rgds,

  • My photo card is due to expire in 6 months time. I've some spare pass port photos taken in 2008. I'll just use these. They'll never know!
  • According to the relevant page on the DVLA site, read:

"Applying at a Post Office® branch without a renewal reminder

If, for any reason, you don’t receive your renewal reminder you may still be able to renew your photo at selected Post Offices®. You will need to have both the photocard and counterpart of your current licence. Alternatively, if you do not wish to apply online or at a selected Post Office®, you will need to complete the ‘application for a driving licence’ (D1) form. This is available from the DVLA form ordering service, and Post Office® branches. You can check the expiry date of your photo in section 4b on the front of your driving licence.
For short term licences and over 70s, you will be prompted by DVLA to renew your photograph and your entitlement to drive – see section 4b on your licence for the expiry date of your entitlement.

    D1 'application for a driving licence' form ordering service (I can't add a hyperlink as I'm a first-time poster)"

If I have understood this correctly, this means that in the event that you have not received (or lost, as was my case) a paper copy of the mythical D798 form, and that despite having been issued a sparkly new passport less than half a year ago the site says you do not have a valid passport, you can get an alternative, paper form sent to your home in the shape of the D1.

This form is not subject to the Post Office "greedy piggies fee".

    StudentAccountant, keep studying.

You need to learn more about numbers.
Like it's 5 months since anyone asked about a D798 form.
