D798 Application to renew the photo on a driving licence
Not sure if this is the right place to post.
A few days ago i receive in the post from DVLA a D798, stating my photo on my driving licence will shortly reach its expiry date.
it then goes on to say that I must by law every 10 years update my photo. I don't have a problem with that, only I had my full photo licence for 3 and a half years not 10.
I understand DVLA can be swine's to deal with, but just wanted to check on here if this is right, or can I say no I haven't had the licence long enough £20.00 right on top of Christmas too to pay for it.
Where do I stand?

I'd get in touch with them to clarify why they think it needs renewed.
I needed to get my 1st photo licence in the summer for driving abroad, and they turned the application around in 3 days-I'd phoned them first to get a direct address to send it to, and backed it up with a grovelling letter with the application! I couldn't fault the service I had.
Has to be worth a phone call?0 -
What is the expiry date on your current licence?0

oh I will call them, it just seems weird that I have to change it now, the date they gave me of expiry is correct with my photo card,
I did think maybe they did that to new drivers!
couldn't come at a better time with the post being as it is, but fortunately there is a DVLA office in the same town as me so, a phone call and if necessary a visit

Why?...the old type licence is acceptable to use abroad as long as it is still valid.
I moved house 8 years ago, and sent off my paper licence to have my details changed....I kind of didn't get round to sorting out the photo card! (I was legal though as DVLA had my up to date details!)0 -
I still have my old green one, valid from 1974 to 2028. It’s a bit tatty now (as in held together with sticky tape) but I don’t plan on getting one of the [STRIKE]ID cards[/STRIKE] photo licences anytime soon, mines lasted 35 years already, can’t see why it won’t last another 20.0

How long did you have your provisional licence? My driving licence photo expires 10 years after the issue of my first provisional licence.0
