Congrats to your mum Wayne :)

Yes lollipop ladies (and men!) are great. My lollipop lady from when I was in junior school died not long ago. My mum went to her funeral, the church was so full there wasn't room for everyone and they had to put speakers in the church yard so everyone who wanted to could pay their respects.
She was in her 80's and had been retired for quite a long time. She was still well loved and always pottering round the village where I grew up, she will be missed.

Ironic thing was, she died a week after being knocked over
  • Well thats another bonus of home educating my 3 younger children, just think of all the money I am saving on not buying all these presents.

I'm sure your children really appreciate the effort you're making.....:A
and at the risk of sounding all serious and mushy, i think the best present ever from children is the time they spend with you...

  • I understand that all jobs have people who work hard, people who just do their job and people who are poor at what they do. I think that there is this misconception that teachers feel that they work harder than everyone else and that everyone else thinks that teachers don't work hard because of the holidays and the hours that the children are in school. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle!

I have never said that I work harder than other people in other professions. The truth is that I probably work harder than some and not as hard as others! The wage is pretty good, but then again, not as good as some but better than others.

The debate about presents for teachers has nothing to do with teachers, it is the parents who may want to buy something. It is certainly wrong if the reason is that you feel that you have to buy something.

The education system uses plenty of data to track the performance of teachers and schools. Every school and every teacher has targets, every child has numerous targets and schools are to be inspected every 3 years. Just because you haven't heard about them doesn't mean they are not there!

I'll say it again, there are good teachers, there are bad teachers and there are average teachers, just like in any other job.

I have worked in numerous supermarkets and I used to work hard there, much harder than some and not as hard as others. I also found it quite hard work. Not mentally, but physically.

I have just read what I have written and it is all very serious!

    Wanna buy some pegs dave?

Most of the parents of my class are really supportive, but there's always one...... This one parent that I'm thinking of was mad that his son had a reading age of an 8 year old when he's actually 11. I was asked that wasn't it "concerning"? Too damn right it's concerning, and this boy gets taken aside for extra literacy, reading support etc etc. Turns out that he's never read at home since Reception. The parents didn't realise that it could have been partly their fault.

The best present that I've had recently? My numeracy set (bless them) who definitely aren't the top group "getting" long division!!! :j :j :j :j They even asked for extra homework!!! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Not good for me then:confused: I am a single mum, a teacher and English (though live in Scotland). Perhaps I had better keep a lower profile.
