Problem with new laptop

A bought a Dell laptop from a ebay shop about 5 months ago. I've got all the warrantly details and I've confirmed with dell these are all correct

The query I have is that it's developed a problem
As soon as the laptop loads up I get the following message

"This system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown was initiated by NT Authority\System."
Windows must now restart because the DCOM Server Process Launcher Service terminated unexpectedly."

Theres also a 60 second countdown timer. When the 60 seconds are up the laptop switches itself off

So would this problem be covered under my warranty?

Also the other thing is according to Dell my laptop originally came from Canada would that mean I'd have to send it there to be fixed or would it be able to be fixed under Dell in the UK?

It's a software problem, no need to send it back to Dell

    Shutdown -a

might stop it from shutting down.

Which operating system, have you got antivirus installed, have you got the operating system disks, or a restore partition.

It's Windows XP (atleast I think thats what you mean by operating system)

the antivirus is McAfee, the restore partitian part I have no idea what you mean by that
Sorry, computers are not my strong point!

Is mcafee upto date, what service pack is it, right click on my computer, click properties.

Do you have an XP disk, do you have data or programs on there that you need to keep?

  • TBH I don't think McAfee is uptodate :o
I think It might have just been like a few month trial and then run out
I'm really crap with computers so i don;t tend to check this stuff

It's Service Pack 3 and no theres nothing on the computer I would desperately need to keep

I do have an XP disk. Although the laptop I've got doesn't have the thing that pops out to put the disk in if you get what I mean?
God i must sound so thick!!
    It's a mini laptop

Does the manual mention a recovery or restore partition?

Do you have data on there that you need?

    www.free-av.com

It's just I've goggled in and loads of websites came up, I don't wanna end up dowloading it from somewhere dodgy

I can't find the manual, I got it out to try and find out stuff about the warranty and obviously lost it
