Does anything actually use Firewire now though? I've got nothing that has ever needed to use Firewire, is there still accessories that use it?
Very few items need firewire. The most common consumer item that had it was Tape Camcorders. Their all USB now so no biggie.
I am on Talk Talk and my old Netgear WG111v3 Wireless USB adapter is working fine right now, it just doesn't correct my spelling.
I would ask PC World to confirm that the motherboard has an avaiable full length PCI-E card, not one of the shorter standard slots. If it does then you will be able to upgrade the graphics card later. Just as easy as uping the memory tbh, the only limitation might be the power supply after that. As long as the graphics card isn't a high end one you would be fine I suspect.
As for that Bl00dy Farmville I am sorry I ever started it ;)

I would say that unless you are using pro camcorders you probably won't need firewire, I could be wrong though
  • Ok, so after many e-mail's to various different shops, PB eventually answered it themselves! However, they were only able to tell me about the X5620uk, which PC World also sell. I'm thinking of going for this one now anyway, as it has wireless built in and more RAM and a bigger hard drive.

Anyway, I've been informed that this one has:

    1x PCI Express 16X
    1x PCI Express 1X
    2x PCI

Is that all it needs for me to be able to upgrade the graphics at some point in the future?

    Yes, that's right.

Almost a certainty you will also have to upgrade the PSU if you put a decent graphics card in.

Not a problem, just more expense.

Sims3 still prefers a dedicated card, so might lag at times, people look at the graphics level and not realise that its not like sims 1 or 2 as the whole town runs all the time, no area screens.

Sims 3 also requires the graphics card to have support for pixel shader 2.0. It's usually better to have a dedicated graphics card for games like this. Read the actual requirements on the back of the game's box or on the game site.
  • Thanks all, I haven't actually actually got the game, but I just wanted to know if it would have the functionality to run it if I ever did decide to buy it.

Don't want to spend to much on the computer as the main needs are word processing and web browsing, and it'll be out of date in a few days anyway...:p

If your budget is £400 pounds and after a desktop you will get one better than that I think, just not from PC world.

  • I had looked at the Dell website and they all seemed to be even more expensive... I'm looking at the X5620uk now, which is £499.

Is there anywhere that would have better offers? Not sure I want to go down the Dell refurbished route!
