Did he give you a written Quote OP , im assuming not .

Legally he cannot remove the guttering , and you can contact the police if he tries to. He would then be arrested .

Have a read of some of their other posts. Makes Manuel from Fawlty Towers sound like a native English speaker.

So maybe you employed this apparently sick man becuase you thought you'd get a cheaper, cash in hand job and now its all gone badly wrong?

As i always advocate..train quality tradesmen, respect them as professionals in their field, pay them fairly.

Dont assume they are all fly by night, cash in hand butchers.

If you do,it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • This sounds terrible and he is obviously on the fiddle. I think simply threatening him with reporting him to social security will be enough to deter him from any further action. It's scandalous behaviour.

My father and much of family (I've done my fair share of labouring too) are builders and this sort of behaviour brings the reputation of the industry down - he quoted you a price so if it comes in higher than he thought he should swallow it - it's business! Not all builders are like this and to be honest you should be asking him to fix the shoddy job he's done already!

    Good luck. Tom
  • If he's on incapacity benefit then he shouldn't be working part-time in a factory. Report him for benefit fraud, and if he comes round again call the police, what he's doing is harassment. If they don't press charges at least it might shake him up a little, also if it gets worse it's better that they have a record of all the complaints you've made about him.
:D**Thanks to everyone on here for hints, tips and advice!**:D

OP - I take you have enquired as to when you will receive your invoice since you didnt realise this was a job on the side ;)

Of course not. You knew fine this guy was doing this on the side and you are now going to use this to get your own way. In all honesty I think you should work out whether the job is worth the price he wants. If it is pay up and be happy you saved a few quid by not getting a proper builder who would likely have charged far more.
  • Trading standards will use everything at their disposal to sort this guy out, as well as possibly taking him to court they will also report him to the Police for intimidation, DSS for working while claiming benefits and the Inland Revenue for tax avoidance and if he is paying rent no doubt since they are an arm of the local council will report him for a false claim of housing benefit which will no doubt jeapordise his tenancy.

That should leave him with enough concerns to keep him out of your face.
