I also have to pay 36pence a day on Gas meter. so it knows between the two tariffs. Yet only charges at the lowest tarriff. Think I'm getting the mick took out of.
The meter does do this a bit strangle I'll admit, but what it is doing is charging the difference between the more expensive first rate and the cheaper second rate to catch up.
You can see the prices on screen 9 & 10, and somewehere else near those screens is another one called Tariff Wid(th) - the amount needed daily at Price 9 before you get to price 10. This will be around 7kWh (IIRC) Screen 9 - Screen 10 x Tariff Wid = ~36p.
Alhtough the meter shows the width as a daily figure, it is actually quarterly on all paperwork.0 -
BG never phone me back. Always left stressing, checking meters. Then my tariffs(Gas) go up every time I top up!!! But BG can't explain it, alongside that being 3 to 4 weeks trying to ''fix it''
I don't like the sound of anyone sitting in a corner alone.....are in receipt of any of the benefits that BG requires for its social tarif; if you are you should be pursuing that first as if you reduce your fuel cost a larger amount will go to debt if you maintain same pymt amount/regularity........people frequently blame prepayment meters, but they are rarely wrong; another poster has explained how to read; i would read my meters at the same time/same day say 10 am each week so you know how much you've used; then manually calculate what that would cost at BG's stated unit price; add standing charge if any and debt repayment; you will find its right........0 -
also-check who your water supplier is for some have Trust Fund Grant towards non water debt (weird but true), as well as Britich Gas Trust fund; if on low income/benefits they can sometimes help. The benchmark for help is generally a household income below approx £15,0000

So thats £2.52 on this daily charge. That annoys me. Is this the same on credit meters? As seriously all this is well .....0 -

I check my meter every day, getting to the point I'm getting pulled up for it by partner. Currently meter takes £4.10 every wednesday. Then I use roughly £2-3 per day gas. Yet my gas bills prior to pre payment showed gas bill was only £400.00 odd from April 2008 til October 2009. So what £8.00 per week roughly. At current it is £21.00 for gas use, ex debt.
The social tariffs I can't get as get to much benefits inc housing benefit/counil tax.0 -
2-3£'s a day seems quite a lot,we use half that and that is currently0

firstly 400 odd from april2008 to oct2009 is approx 76 weeks. i.e a weekly amount of £5.26.....but that is a weekly average; you need to factor in 1) gas went up about 40% inSep 08 2) you use about 80% of your total usage over the year in the five winter months from nov-mar; so if you take 20 weeks at £21 you get £420, add minimal usage for 7 months, 30 weeks at £4 a week and you get a total of £540; take your old bill of 400 add 40% and you get £560 which shows you are paying right, you just have to accept prices have gone up; you say social tarifs dont hep because you get too many benefits; if your geting both housing and council tax that suggests someone is on JSA/income support etc-why are you not eligble; and what about the trust funds-have you explored them
the £2-3 per day says more about the fficiency of your boiler/insulation than anything else- if its £2 in winter months, frankly your doing well; if boiler crp no insulation, your benfits mean your energy co. will do loft and cavity free of charge, and Warmfront can grant you £3500 if you boiler is not working (if its old but working put a hammer to it and then ring WF as they wont help if you got a working boiler just lie)0 -
The socail tariffs are if your income is less than ..... However As I get IS, DLA, HB, CT and partner gets CA. That all taken into account.0

at least you've explored it....a lot don't
May i be bold and suggest you contribute your recently received/imminent Winter Fuel Allowance to (nearly) clear your gas debt and then you can switch both meters?0 -
