Hi
Some little S*** has been very thoughtful and decided to key my car, just above the petrol cap. It's quite deep and about 30cm long. It's just one scratch. Can anyone let me know please how much roughly I should be paying for a respray job for the back panel? I presume the whole panel would need to be redone.

I have a 6 year old Yaris in non metallic blue.

Thanks

Its really difficult to quote without actually seeing the vehicle. I'd hazzard a guess at around £100 to £150 for a good job.

I'm in Wakefield. I just wanted to get a rough idea as when I was going to get my old car touched up - 2 panels I got quoted ridiculous figures. Perhaps it's because I'm female. I just don't want to get ripped off. Does anyone have any recommendations where to get it done please?

    EDIT

It will be the rear quarter plus blend in to the wing
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

if you want to save some money mate go to a scrap dealer and find out how much they want for a back panel, is usually cheaper than getting it resprayed as car respraying is a very expensive job
  • if it was somewhere where you usually park i wouldn't get it repaired too often, this happened to a friend, they day after the repair a scratch was put back in the exact same place and it became a game for the scratcher
  • back panel is small on a yaris i'd give chips away a call see if they can repair just the scratch. rather than the whole panel.

On a 6 year old car I’d be tempted to get some touch up paint and apply lots of thin coats with a small brush to fill in the scratch

    A bit like nail varnish
    :D

You obviously speak from experience.. :D

The back panel in this case is actually a rear wing/rear quarter panel, ie, not removeable, ;);)

if you were closer I'd do it for you.

total paint and materials cost = £20-£30
2-3 hours labour = varies depending on where you go

that said, if the scratch isn't too bad you may find it'll come out using a Porter Cable (A random orbit polisher). take it to a valeting/paint correction plac and ask if they can "mop" it to remove the scratch. they'll soon tell you if the scratch is too deep to be cut out.
