Has anyone bought a Blu Ray player? I was thinking about it but i don't know anyone who has bothered. There are not many films available and so far only Panasonic have recordable Blu Ray. I am starting to think this might be the biggest flop since Laser discs.

I have 2 Blu-ray players and I think they are worth it. They play DVD's as well so you only need one machine to play both.
Blu-ray won the war against HD DVD nearly 2 years ago and the technology has recently passed its 10th anniversary. The growth of Blu-ray has been more rapid then the growth of DVD so I don't think it will be a flop.
Whether you think it is worth it is down to whether you want a better picture and sound. The picture quality of a DVD is equivalent to a 0.5 Megapixel digital camera, a Blu-ray disk picture is equivalent to a 2 Megapixel digital camera. Just like DVD when it was sold along side video, the Blu-ray disks are more expensive than DVD but then they often include a digital copy or DVD with the Blu-ray disk. If you shop around you can get them reasonably cheap.
It really is up to you whether it is worth it, but the technology is here to stay. Recently in the USA Blu-ray disks of one or two recent releases have been sold before the DVD version (a sign of how the film companies are focusing on pushing the technology)0 -
I use the PS3 for Blu-ray, it's good. I think you'll find there are significantly more films on Blu-ray than you suggest (practically all new releases for the past 18 months have come out on Blu-ray).
But for me, I'd still buy DVDs for now.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

All major Hollywood studios, including Universal Studios and Paramount support the blu-Ray format, so there will be plenty of movies to watch really soon. And until there are new releases, you can still watch DVDs...

There are plenty already, even my local Sainsburys has a wide selection.
Plenty of old movies have been converted as well.0
