Cashback Cards..

Where have they gone?
What with the Shell Citi card ceasing at the end of the month I lose my cashback card and have a bog standard card that does little! I made around £70 a year from the Citi card- essentially 2 decent fill-ups. What option do we have for a new card?
*Amex is best cashback wise but I wouldn't qualify with my income ATM.
*Egg Money is next best at 1% but it has a £12 fee per year which negates a lot of the cashback over free lower rates unless you spend over £3k IIRC.
*Leeds BS seems next best at a low 0.5%!
Seems not only savers got whacked over the recession with that being all there is on the market these days!
Any hope of there being new cards in 2010?

This table on the stoozing site (which is sponsored by Money Saving Expert) suggests a couple more options:

Out of date. Barclaycard is no longer availiable on their site- link is just to main page and best after that is Leeds BS. I would have applied otherwise!0 -

How often is the stoozing site updated? The savings rates don't look like they've been updated for at least 6 months0 -

Coop 'members' credit card? 0.5% + share of profits.0

Unless its recently changed, the profit share is based on statement balance - so isn't that generous for someone who pays off in full each month!0 -
If you buy cds, dvds or memory cards, how about a play.com card?
I get enough to buy a few discs from time to time0 -
The Amex card isn't that good now, more so if you spend small amounts as they only count full £ value of each transaction for cash back. These are my thoughts and no one else's, so like any public forum advice - check it out before entering into contracts or spending your hard earned cash!
I don't know everything, however I do try to point people in the right direction but at the end of the day you can only ever help yourself!0 -

Nope supermarket shopping, fuel and I buy more off Amazon than Play!
Seriously looks like 0.5% card, although a bit of digging you can still find the form for Barclaycard 1% but doubt they'd accept! :rotfl:0 -

I disagree. 5% on £2K is masssively better than anything else on the market.
As you say you have to be aware of the following gotchas
1) You need to spend £3K to qualify. The last £1K brings the rate effectively down to 3.5% but that's still much higher than elsewhere.
2) You need to keep the card in use for a year so it doesn't go dormant. Just remember to put some petrol or food shopping on it once per month say.
3) Pence doesn't count. Minimal effect for most folks though unless you are spending small amounts all the time.
4) Not accepted everywhere.
5) Not on quidco last time I looked.
A bit harder than it used to be but still the best by miles.0
