Help re due a cheque from Solicitor

I wonder if anyone can help me with this one.
I moved house last Thursday 8th June. The way things worked out there is money left from the sale of my previous house. The solicitor says he would deduct his and the EA fee from this and send me a cheque for the balance.
However, I still haven't received anything. Has anyone had any experience of waiting this long? After all it is his bank account that is gathering interest and not mine.
Thanks in advance.

The cheque may have to come from the accountants of your solicitor. I'm sure they do not feel the need to hurry matters and the eratic postal system makes matters worse. I can understand why they don't use the BACS system.
Perhaps they doubt their abilities to add and subtract without a few days to consider the total.

The figure due to you should have been known before completion and a cheque sent to you the same day.
Get on to them and ask them what the delay is and also ask them for the interest you are losing.0 -
The law society has set rules about paying you interest depending on the length of time and the amount of money involved. The higher the amount the shorter the can hold onto it before paying interest.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. My solicitor sat on it for about 3 weeks. I didnt follow it up as she led me to believe the hold up wasnt with her but with the Morgage co. I later found out she had recieved it on the day of completion. I didnt argue the point because she is a *very* good solicitor, and I may want to use her again sometime.:A:A:A:A:A:A0

I got mine the same day - but only because I said in advance that I wanted it paying by BACS into my bank account - there was a £25 fee, but that was less than the interest I would have lost if I'd messed about waiting for a cheque.
Chase it up, and tell them you are calling into to collect the cheque and ask them to have it ready for you.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -
Sometimes they might need to wait for money to clear before sending your cheque (or maybe they are just slow!), but if it's a significant amount they should be holding it in their "client" account, and should reimburse you any interest earned whlie they hold it.0

There cannot be anything waiting to clear. Completion money from the buyer HAS to be clear at the point of completion. I can think of no reason why a cheque was not drawn on or the day before completion ready to post out on completion day. I think this is an oversight by the solicitors which may well not be rectified for even longer if it is not chased up.0 -
Chase the solicitor, it should have been sent to you on the day of completion. Some solicitors like to keep hold of cheques, I know when we chase them for our fees, a few days after completion, we usually get a feeble excuse & the check arrives next day. Call your solicitor.0
