Mobile internet and laptop-where to start?

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone could offer me some advice? I'd like to get a laptop with mobile internet but I don't know where to start. What packages are the best value for money? And what sort of specifications should I be looking for in a laptop? Should I buy them seperately or go for one of the free laptop deals?

Buy them seperately. Laptop and Netbooks are relatively cheap now. £200 and £300 can get you a decent Netbook and laptop respectively.
As for mobile broadband, don't tie yourself into a contract until you know which will give you the best signal/reception in your area. I would look at O2 first, as their USB Dongles are generally unlocked, so if they don't work out for you, you can try a SIM from another provider.
Order via Quidco for savings/cashback.0 -
The specification to which you should aspire, will depend on your need/usage pattern.
If your needs are basic; music, video, word processing, there are a few nice laptops on the Argos returns website for around £300.
For example: Toshiba Satellite L300-29W £310.
If you feel that you can't live without Windows 7, it will cost you another £28.0 -
Need help techie guys....
Want new laptop that I can use for internet (3 hrs a day), office programmes i.e. word, excel etc. Do all my shopping, banking etc. from home. Want a work horse with plenty of memory to hold loads of documents and pictures dowloaded from my camera. Company with good service record and a 3 yr contract (some do seem expensive with some suppliers). I am going to buy mobile broadband separately - do I need to look for any special features on the laptop for compatibility. Have seen a special offer in Argos for 12 month mobile broadband contract with T Mobile with £50 off till the end of December. Want at least 15.6" screen. Like to watch my own movies too sometimes but never use for downloading music, movies, playing games etc.
I am retiring next year so want a good reliable machine that will last me quite a time. Willing to spend up to £500 for the right one. I am mesmerized by the number of models available even with the same model no.... for example Acer Aspire 5738G or Z etc. which I was considering. Toshiba seem to offer some nice spec models also.
