Feeling ever so proud as I did my online shop and it only came to 25.25 for next weeks shop :j However, it means I can't claim my 10 quid voucher cos you have to spend 35 quid or more.
However, I haven't included wine - I had more or less come to the conclusion we were going to have to give up on wine to get our bills below 80 quid a week - is there somewhere really cheap to get it (where it's still drinkable) or do you guys just abstain? It wouldn't bother me as I rarely drink anyway, but I suspect that would involve hubby throwing the towel in.
Obvious answer today is to get a box, as my 10 pound voucher would then cover it - but any ideas for the future?
TIA!

Yep, your voucher would provide free wine !!
There are always vouchers around, especially for Tesco. Have a look in the online vouchers section of the shopping forum. Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:

I get wine from Lidl as it's fantastic quality at really cheap prices. I only get it from Tesco if I've been sent extra points vouchers from the Wine Club.
What you could do to bump your order up to use the voucher is to buy more bulk things that will last a long time like toilet roll, kitchen towel, rice, pasta etc.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

I certainly don't abstain:rotfl: I buy most of my wine from Tesco. The most economical way of buying it is a box, but in our house the easy availabilty of wine in a box means it doesn't last as long:beer:
I never include wine as part of my grocery budget. It comes in the same category as books, music DVDs-leisure I suppose.0 -
We buy our wine in boxes works out a lot cheaper than buying bottles. I find Morrisons wine cheap and sells the brands I like as well0

I budget separately for wine too - normally order in bulk from wine clubs when I have a discount voucher. My last order was from Laithwaite's and came to £84 including delivery, that's for 2 of their current Best Buys cases (usually the cheapest mixed case they do) - so worked out at £3.50 a bottle for 24 bottles, supplied by a specialist wine merchant (and it's all delicious!) To get it down to £84 I used £20 worth of discount vouchers they'd sent me, "redeemable against any 2 cases in the current catalogue" but I went to their website where the cases I wanted were £5 cheaper each
and the voucher still worked
... Abstaining? Pah!

abstaining from wine... hmmmm no I don't seem to be able to understand that sentence at all :rotfl:
I love my wine but these days I treat it more like a treat than a daily (!) thing...
I buy wine at Costco as it carries my fave wines much cheaper than anywhere else. Otherwise I wait for special offers and money off vouchers dealsDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Iceland and Spa usually run 3 for £10 offers on wines such as Hardy's and Galleo (sp) which usually sell for £3.50-£4.00 everywhere else.
HTH. xxIts nice to be important but more important to be nice!0 -
I got my OH interested in making HM wine
Much cheaper but it does take a while to get a reasonable stock. We make it from scratch rather than buying kits, so we have some interesting experiments on the go (some very good ... other's well errmm - maybe they'll improve with age). We are newbies at it (less than a year) so constantly having to look things up in books (from car boot sales).
All our demi johns etc have come off car boots and from people who know we are trying to learn the art. It's amazing how many people have given wine making a go and then gone back to buying wine. We did try one kit, it worked out at about 1.50 a bottle.Enjoying an MSE OS life0 -
Lidls and Aldi do really good wines at reasonable prices.
IMO, box wine is on the whole not as nice as a freshly opened bottle (but a bit nicer than a day or two 'old' bottle...)
As for moneysaving, it's touch and go whether a box is economical (because there are no leftovers) or expensive because it is the closest you get to having alcohol via a drip!!!!
As you can see from my sig, I consider wine an essential, even when cutting back elsewhere.....0 -
It's a tricky one. I know that in mediterranean cultures a glass or two of wine a day is considered a staple, like tea is in this country, but then they do have access to very cheap good quality wine. Wine consumption in the UK has gone from almost nothing in the fifties to almost being considered a daily staple.
Sorry to be a spoilsport but I don't think this is necessarily a good thing - wine drinking can easily escalate (because once a bottle's open, you need to finish it reasonably quickly) and because your body builds up a tolerance to it. So I now do without wine or alcoholic drinks except on weekends.
If you really want wine, I'd say try Morrison's who do quite nice red wines for around £3 a bottle, or make your own (see other threads). Alternatively, if you just want a drink to relax with, get cheap own brand spirits like vodka or gin and use as a mixer (they won't go off so you wont be tempted to finish off the bottle - unless you're a total alkie!)'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0
