A&L change to Santander

Evening all,
Does anyone know what will happen to the A&L current accounts when the transfer to Santander is complete next year?
Is the change cosmetic (branding/cards etc) or will the actual account move and I will receive a new account number/sort code?
Reason I ask is I was declined an Abbey account - wouldn't want to lose my current account facilities with A&L if the account is moved to Santander then assessed in a different light by the parent company. Can they close it if that is the case, even though I run my A&L account well and have a decent amount going in every month?
Hope that makes sense to somebody!
MF

I assume the account number and sort code will stay the same - but everything will be merged onto one computer system0

Bradford + Bingley accounts got new sort code and account numbers when they were absorbed into the evil empire earlier this year.I have a deep burning indifference0

Ah, thanks for the info.
It may be a fair assumption that A&L will transfer onto Santander's account set up also then?
If anyone has experience of this from another bank takeover/merger - can they advise if the accounts are just carried over as normal, or if they are assessed by the new bank's 'score card' and account type allocated by that? i.e. would my Premier Direct account transfer to the nearest Santander option automatically?
As I previously mentioned, I don't think I cut it with Santander's credit scoring, but have full facilities with A&L (and don't want to lose them).
Probably worrying about nothing...
Cheers,

A different-but-related question: does anyone know what will happen to A&L's on-line banking? It's not the greatest right now, but if they're going to be introducing the One-Time-Password thing that Abbey has brought in, I'm gone...0

The Banco Santander Partenon.
Has an evil ring to it. :rotfl:Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.0 -
Customers do not need to take any action themselves; we simply provide new account details when their next transaction is undertaken. Any existing automated payments (e.g. Standing Orders or Direct Debits) into or out of their accounts continue as usual.
(From the Abbey Website)Helloooooooooooooo :beer:0 -

I've asked on that website about changes to on-line banking, but I'm not holding my breath for an answer, as it only says they'll "collate" the most common questions - i.e. you can ask a question but they might or might not answer it. The site talks about their computer systems, but doesn't mention on-line banking.0 -
If it will all be under the same brand it would be strange to have 2 online banking systems - I assume Abbey's will be used0

This wont be done until late next year so any replies are guess work or the usual suspects having cheap pops at Abbey which helps the OP not one bit.0
