HELP im a bit blonde when it comes to buying internet etc...........I currently have a orange dongle 3gb(i think) £15amonth.......I dont have a house phone line.....
I am a student living with my 2yrold daughter as I am renting I dont want to be tied into a 18/24month contract..........
so I came across Virgin Media site and as I dont live in the cable area I would have to have the broadband through my phoneline has any1 else got this?
so I would have to pay setupfees etc and the bill would be £25 a month.....reasonable i think lol
but are virgin media any good? i need advice on wheter its good deal like? please help xoxo

After over 10 years with Virgin, I've finally cracked. Their broadband is being switched off next month, and I'm going elesewhere.

I've just done a speedtest.net scan, and whilst I'm paying for their supposed 10Mb/s download speeds, the results show 0.31Mb/s download, and 0.04Mb/s upload.

Don't believe what they say about their throttling policy, as when someone from their customer retentions called me to try to persuade me from moving from them, she told me how apparently crap everyone else's service is. When I told her that I had kids who used iplayer and played internet games, she said that their throttling policy was to cut connection speeds by 25% of the billed amount. When I said that I'd seen the policy on their website, and that it was to cut speeds by 75% she kept telling me I was wrong. After spending 5 minutes taking her through the website to the actual page which proved what I'd said, there was a stunned silence before she regained her arrogance and replied "Oh, there's obviously a training issue."

My point here is that these are the retentions staff, who should be the best trained of the CSAs, who can deal with the difficult customers the front line staff can't handle easily.

The sky telly has been installed this week and I've been watching channels today that Virgin don't have, and its far cheaper. I'll save this story for another post.

So my advice to the OP is - Virgin don't deliver on the services they promise, they get all arrogant when you complain, and they're desperate for the cash flow and not at all competitive. Best avoid unless there's no other option.

If you are not in a VM cable area then you will need a BT ADSL line in order to get Virgin's service (it is called Virgin National). You can get a free BT line connected, but you will be required to take an 18m contract for line rental. Otherwise it's £122.50 for connection. Then you can chose any ISP you like-my very last choice on ADSL would be Virgin.
Look at https://www.samknows.com, then exchange search, for the best LLU deals available. Most contracts are 12m, TT is usually 18m. Some ISP's offer shorter contracts than 12m but normally you pay a premium.
