Have you tried using a light box and a digital camera in macro mode ?, ensure the flash is off.

No..and unfortunately, I only have very limited "point and shoot" photographic knowledge, so unless it came with "idiot proof" instructions.....i'd fail...

I also use a Canon CanoScan LiDE25 flatbed scanner, and this will scan larger negatives just fine. It will also scan 35mm, but you do need to remove any transparencies from their mounts because they need to be in direct contact with the scanner plate.

Sorry, but can u confirm this.....this Canon CanoScan LiDE25 will scan negatives??....it doesnt mention this in the spec.....or am i missing something here, and ALL flatbeds will scan negatives....

This is really cheap, and will chance it, if you will confirm...

If your digital camera does macro (eg close ups) then it will not cost you anything to try the following.

put a piece of white paper on the OUTSIDE of a window, carefully attach your negative/slide on the INSIDE. (There is a reason for this)

Set camera to no flash and macro/close up mode.

Go close to fill the frame with your negative/slide....... take picture

    look at result.

Cannot be much simpler than that. AND it costs you NOTHING to experiment.

Yes, I can confirm that the CanoScan LiDE25 does scan negatives. Here is an example of one I recently scanned from an original 120 format roll film negative, taken in Ireland in the 1920s.

I have to say a big thank you for this information

I have a pile of old negatives not 35mm or 110mm but ones which I think are from a 'brownie' they are about 3x4.5 "

I did what the above poster said but it did not look much different on the camera screen. I uploaded it onto my computer and using my photo editing software I changed the effect to negative and hey presto there looking back at me was my grandfather who i only have one other photo of.

I would recommend anyone gives this a go I don't have a expensive camera either
this is a great tip once again THANK YOU
