Hi, I am currently looking for a new 37" TV. I'm a bit confused over the different specs and am unsure what to go for:
It's not going to be used for gaming, just TV / DVD.
LCD or Plasma?
What contrast ratio?
Is 50hzh refresh quick enough?
1080p or 1080i?
What brightness? etc etc...............
I'm sure that not all are that imprtant, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Steve

Most specs dont mean anything
How much are you looking/willing to spend and whats it to be used for?
My general advice is buy a Panasonic Plasma, or a Sony/Samsung LCD. Buy 1080P
heres some reviews for you to peruse ~

yes I agree with aliEnRIK. If you are stick with Plasma go with Panasonic or if you stick with LCD Samsung Series 6 is good one.0

Yes, Panasonic and spend the most you can (and a bit more) because it's worth it. Now have two 42" at home. Yep, theres TV and then there's Panasonic and Freeview and iPlayer and youtube and DVD and Internet and then some more0

Thanks everyone. Was hoping to spend max £550 - £600. It's only going to be used as TV / DVD. No gaming.
Thanks again0 -
Then you can go with LCD cheaper than Plasma and suit perfectly for home.0

Then the most crucial thing it must have is a decent scaler (To make it fit the dimensions of the tv)
Id go with this ~

Thanks - I particularly like the price!!
But, is this set 1080p? Or doesn't that really matter on a TV this size?0 -

It isnt 1080P. But you said your 'only' going to watch normal tv and dvds which are all SD (standard definition). 1080P is useless to you:idea:0 -
I got this one a week ago :
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-TX-P37X10B-37-inch-Widescreen-Freeview/dp/B001TUYUT2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1260053429&sr=8-2
Superb picture, easy to set up, no regret. If you don't do much gaming and don't intend to use blu-ray don't bother with full HD. I have even read that full HD is lost on a 37", you won't notice any difference.
If you want a bit bigger :

Thanks. I said I was only going to watch TV / DVD's - not normal TV. I'm also looking at getting a HD Freesat box.
Is 1080p a must for HD viewing? or is 1080i adequate?
Too much choice!!!!!0
