I have recently come off contract with 3 as i can no longer afford it so i decided to go on to t-mobile PAYG i got my phone unlocked to any network and put in my new t-mobile sim for a few days everything was fine then yesterday a few times through the day my screen came up with this message....

Sim card registration failed - no service

Now this only happens a few times throughout the day and then my phone goes back to normal, i was told that 3 may have blocked my phone so i rang them up and they said they haven't, does anyone know what the problem could be  i did try an 02 sim and it said the same message when i was on 3 everything was fine right up till last week

You need a GSM phone (not UMTS) to connect and register with T-Mob. If your phone IS multi-band, make sure this is enabled otherwise, in much the same way as 3UK block GSM handsets, T-Mob may be doing the same to UMTS (preferring GSM as the initial service, THEN switching to 3G).

    How would i enable multi - band? I have a nokia 6500
  • Find "Network mode"
    • Press the Navigation key.
    • Scroll to Settings and press the Navigation key.
    • Scroll to Phone and press the Navigation key.
    • Scroll to Network mode and press the Navigation key.
If you select Dual mode, the phone automatically switches between the two network types.
If you select GSM, you are not able to make calls if the selected network type is not available.

    Choose network type

    • Highlight Dual mode or GSM and press the Navigation key.
