lost my gold crown

ive had it in excess of 10 years so i suppose its served its prpose but tonight it came out when i was eating boiled rice without any warning.

ive saved it before i swallowed it.

the problem is if i go to my dentist and have it cememnted back in i just know she wont do it and will say it no longer fits or whatever and charge me for a full check up and do fillings there and then like she usually does without telling you shes going to do them until youve got a mouth full of instruments and cant speak.

seriously this is what she is like.

i cant afford either. i want it cememnted back in for a small charge. no check up, no new one, no fillings. but i know this wont be the case even if i request so.

i have been looking to change dentists to another local one who comes highly recommended, and funny enough by some people who used the one i use. she may put me at ease with speaking to me like im 2 years old but i believe she is ripping me off [see previous posts].

would the new one be willing to cement my gold crown back for me if i book to go see them in the new year and how much roughly would this cost?

or, not so seriously but can be considered, can i superglue it in or use 'no more nails'?

the weight of it has got me considering contacting cash4gold and saying ballcocks to the gap, ill get used to it.

Maybe best to go find out what she actually will say.

I would doubt the new dentist will just put it back in. If you have had it for 10 years, your teeth and gums will have changed in that time.

sell the gold and get a cheaper crown
  • Any dentist who would fix your crown back in without doing a check up first shouldn't be in business.

You could try superglue but one slip and you might be drinking liquids for sometime:rotfl::rotfl:

You obviously need to see a dentist.

Equally, you obviously need to see a psychiatrist.

"One of my fingers has got gangrene and is nearly falling off, can I just dab a bit of Dettol on it, or wrap it with a bit of sellotape?? Surely I don't need the help of a qualified surgeon and a nursing support team? I mean they don't know how to do anything, do they? I've watched Casualty so the bit of sellotape will do, won't it??"

"One of my kids has spots all over their body [which don't go away under a glass] , is hurt by light and has pain all over, can I just give them a bit of chicken soup or recite a Greek incantation over them. Surely I don't need to take them to the filthy scummy thieving NHS hospital do I?"

    Get help...of both kinds.
  • Go and see the dentist first before you jump to conclusions.
I have two crowns one has never fallen off the other one does at least once a year and even though I've had it 12 years it gets stuck back on.
My dentist always told me to go back straight away as the longer you leave it the other teeth have a chance to move slightly and the crown may no longer fit.
By the way if your'e NHS it'll only cost you the basic treatment cost £16 something but private dentist's differ.

If you set yourself such low expectations of dentistry, you will always find crap dentists. They'll be the only ones that are prepared to put up with you.

I have told many idiot patients that their needs "May be better served by ................ down the road" I'd probably even give you the bus fare down there, and get my receptionist to book you an appointment!

A dentist can only work with the motivation of the patient. If the patient is completely distrusting and always feels they know better, it's often just not worth treating that patient. Life is too short to to be seeing people that stress you out.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
  • I am not trust in new dentist will just put it back in. If you have had it for 10 years, your teeth and gums will have changed in that time.

    Thanks

That doesn't alweays make a difference for a crown. So long as no decay has got in underneath, you can often just stick them back on.

Whilst it's off though, it's often a good chance to have a good check of the health of the tooth - including an x-ray, as if something bad is going on underneath, you can sort that out, and then stick the same crown back on again, and you've not had to damage it.

Hence the need for a 'check-up' as well.

In fact, if a dentist DIDN'T do a check up, and something bad happened afterwards that could have been prevented had it been looked for - then the patient could sue said dentist EVEN IF the patient said they didn't want a check up!!!

We're the professionals, and we're not allowed to let patients stupidity get in the way of doing what's best. So if a patient insists on us doing or not doing something that's against their best interest, we MUST refuse to treat.

Please don't try and stick it back yourself , it could come out while you are asleep and you could end up choking!
