Got a parking fine

Hi,

I got a parking fine for paring in my local supermarket car park. It used to be run by Euro but now appears to be being run by the supermarket itself. Anyway, you can only park there for one hour - and there was an event in the town for christmas (my son was singing) and I was there for 1 and a half hours.

The car park in enforced by cameras, so had no idea until yesterday demanding £30 (plus a £2.50 "fee" for obtaining my details) within 14 days.

I have been reading Martin's article, but I don't think I have any grounds to appeal becuase I knew about the one hour limit. And I own the car.

Please help - becuase if I am going to have to pay, I want to do it soon so the fine doesn't increase.

Thanks,

This is not a "fine" and you do not have to appeal because you have done nothing wrong. You haven't broken any laws. Please read all the other threads on here about private parking charges. They are all unenforceable. Ignore any subsequent letters. Which supermarket was it? Tesco perhaps?

Shame on the "ethical" Co-Op for being part of this scam.

  • See they are cutting out the middle man. Changes nothing though.

  • and the charge to obtain my details is stupid

Well the supermarket have had to pay that charge. Look upon it as a scammer tax.

No, that's a good thing because it's cost them money! :T

They have paid out the £2.50 plus the cost of sending you letters, and they'll get nothing back.

BTW you can park there again, there's nothing they can do (they can't clamp you for an alleged/illegal fine). :D

The Co-op stores near me still use EuroCarParks, I notice. I am surprised to read the Co-op you went to seem to be doing this themselves...maybe it IS a PPC-run scam but the Co-op have allowed them to use Co-op headed notepaper?

Does the payment say it should be made to 'Co-op'?

Just interested. Don't pay it, and ignore the other letters they'll no doubt send you.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
