Thousands of us think dishwashers are wonderful
Smeg are a good make . But you have not been too kind to it
Never ?? cleaned it and up to now deprived it of salt.
Rinse aid ??
Buy a finish dishwasher cleaner , add salt , check jets
And come to love your dishwasher .
You make me feel like it's a neglected family member! :rotfl:Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I remember those flippin' 'bits' that used to stick to glasses, the inside of cups and on plates.
I live in a soft water area, have no trouble with limescale and I keep the inside scrupulously clean - so where were these bits coming from? I don't know which of the following worked - perhaps it was a combination of things.
* I'd switch off the machine before it got to the drying cycle, open the doors and let the crockery dry naturally. Once the steam had cleared, I could spot bits on the inside and wipe them off with kitchen towel
* I inspected the drain from the dishwasher. It seemed to have a lot of water still in it. I siphoned as much of it off as I could and had a poke around. I found a small chicken bone, some pulped paper, hard crumbs of some description, congealed fat and undissolved powder. I cleaned them out and then ran a very hot wash with a few drops of Stardrops (and I mean 3 or 4 drops), a cup of vinegar and a cup of washing soda.
* I stopped using tablets and opted for liquid dishwasher stuff for a couple of months.
* I stopped using the eco-wash cycle and I used the hot wash instead.
* When I went back to tablets I bought cheap, no frills, W5 Tablets from Lidl. Wow - they were better than anything I'd ever used before - it was extraordinary.
I don't have any pesky bits  any more. I've gone back to the eco-cycle, but I use the very hot cycle at least once a week. I always switch off the machine before the drying cycle kicks in, now - it saves electricity.
Hope that gives you some ideas. All the best. :beer:0 -
The only time that we have ever had trouble with our Hotpoint dishwasher is when it runs out if salt. Then it leaves the glasses with white marks. I just fill it with dishwasher salt and its perfectly ok again. It has never had any maintenance or additives of any kind apart from the salt, and we are in a hard water area. I have often thought how well it cleans the dishes. The only other precaution I take, is to ensure that loose food waste is scraped off of the dishes. This is only so that I will not have any problems with a blocked drain.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Oh how I pray that my 15 year old Bosch keeps on going strong for me! I do use separate salt and rinse aid, along with sainsburys own powder and it has never had a hiccup yet ( hope i am not tempting fate here! )0
