Is there money in selling old domain names

I recently visited websites which re-sell domain names. In the last few years ever now and again - mostly in the dead of night - I get a brilliant website based business idea, then in the morning I think it is rubbish. I've heard stories of people selling old domain names and making good money, is there any truth in this? Obviously I don't want to spend too much money on trying this, so the cheapest re-seller website I found was letlay.com - which only asks a $1 per add but leaves the negotiation process to the seller, any ideas on any other sites?

Dead game that one.
In this day and age, all the businesses out there that require a domain have one and any new business researches domain names before they decide on a name for the business.0 -
Also the various internet registries take a dim view of cyber squatting and now take action to remove domains from cyber squatters trying to make a fast buck. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I wish that was true. The UK is reasonably well regulated, but that is about it. It still costs money to challenge ownership even of a UK name.
If you own a decent name, then there may be a buyerout there.
sedo.com lists an awful lot.
Problem is if you decide to not renew it, some squatter will simply register it anyway.
I would suggest giving it a go, and then if after a year you have had no offers consider giving it up.0 -

I disagree, I think there will be money in it.
The question is, will it be enough to make it worth your time and hassle! When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0
