If you have an economy 7 electricity meter and are on the economy 7 tariff, then you will be paying high day rates and low night rates.Economy 7 type meters generally offer low cost energy over the cheap rate period. This is around 12 midnight to 7am GMT, although some meters are fitted with special switches that vary the start and finish time slightly.
Gas is the same rate day and night.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

The energy supplier might not know but their meter could know.
You get 7 hours cheap electricity between the hours(normally) of Midnight and 8am if you have elected for an Economy 7 tariff.
You have to ask for this and a different meter is fitted.
HOWEVER the disadvantage of Economy 7 is that you pay more for your daytime electricity. So unless you have storage heating it is difficult(not impossible) to make Economy 7 a worthwhile proposition.0 -

between Midnight & 8am would be EIGHT hours, not seven
:rotfl:
We have Economy7, and yes the day rate is more expensive. We may it work for us though, as we only use our washing machine & tumble dryer at night, and as we're out at work most of the day (ok so not strictly true ATM as my wife is on maternity) we don't use much in the day either.
that said, our bill is still high as we have a pre-payment meter which I really must get round to having switched

When I had a flat with E7, it was on a different circuit, only feeding the storage and immersion heaters, not the sockets, or have I got that wrong? My advice is worth exactly what you're paying for it!

No, the separate circuit is only energised for the E7 hours by the timeswitch or radioteleswitch. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Yeah, I guessed that. The point I'm getting to, is that it won't make any difference what time you use your washing machine or tumble dryer, as it always off of the normal 'black' meter, not the 'white' meter. No, the separate circuit is only energised for the E7 hours by the timeswitch or radioteleswitch.
If the 'white meter' circuit is used 'out of hours', you are charged at a premium rate. i.e if you override the immersion heater through the day.
Or that's how it worked for meMy advice is worth exactly what you're paying for it!
