There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

How about ringing Trading Standards, explain your problem and ask if they can give you his address ?

Thanks again everyone. I'm ringing consumer direct tomorrow and I'm also removing my positive feedback from his Mybuilder profile (which they have agreed to do) I'm going to have to have a go at the flooring myself as I don't like using the washer because of the noise pollution to the flat downstairs and the potential damage to it. I've tried ringing him twice again today but ended up with his answering service again, which he ignores when he realizes that it's from me.

However, I don't think that he should get away with this. I know people make mistakes and every now and again things do go wrong but I don't see how this could possibly have been a mistake. He must have been in a hurry and thought that it wouldn't be noticed - which it wasn't for some time.

Anyway you have all :xmassmile cheered me up with your observations and detective work.

    Hi Errata

That's one reason I am ringing consumer advice tomorrow. Apparently they refer problems to trading standards if they believe that it is relevant. In addition, Mybuilder will give out his address to a government organisation so I'm hoping that they will help with that too

You're welcome. I wouldn't be surprised if Whitby Trading Standards didn't have contact details for every firm that trades in Whitby.

  • i know this sounds like a silly question, but what are you going to do once you have his address? go to his home or place of work? i would steer clear of that incase he accuses you of harrasment or something and gets the police involved. If i were you i would just report him to trading standards,

I wanted his address so that I didn't look like a complete idiot (although I do feel like one) when I did contact trading standards. Also so that I could vent my spleen in writing. I was very polite on the one occasion that i got to speak to him last week allbeit through gritted teeth but I thought that he was coming to sort it out and that was the main thing. I've no intention of wasting time trying to see him. But I would like to cause him some discomfort

I've just googled his number and this post is also showing up :rotfl:

I wonder how long before he changes his phone number.

OP, have you tried contacting him from another number so he doesnt know its you?

You've done all you can do in means of trying to contact him. I wouldnt try and contact him by phone. Contact trading standards, they should be able to provide an address for him as you need to be prepared to send two complaint letters in writing. If he doesnt reply or he does not resolve the problem then you take legal action. He will have to either rectify the faults free of charge or pay the costs of a qualified builder to put the faults right. Trading Standards will help you all the way through it.

I will watch out for him making an appearance on the ITV programme 'Builders from Hell'.

    Hi all

I have removed my feedback from Mybuilder and phoned consumer direct. Consumer direct are passing the information on to trading standards and have also said that it is an offense for him to have a website advertising services that has no address on it.

Trading standards will contact me within the next 3 days so I am holding off repairing the flooring until I hear more from them.

He may not put right the mess that he has made but he is not getting away with it scott free so he should think twice about doing it again!
