Skype on 3 (skypephone vs skype app)
Hello moneysavers!
I've been researching getting a 3g phone for free skype on 3, but there seems to be some very varied opinions around. Some say it's great, others seem to be very disappointed (even with full signal)...
I'm just wondering if anyone on this forum has experience of using either a skypephone (model S1 or S2), or even just the skype app you can get for most 3g phones.
the main information i'm looking for is...
is skype reliable? what is the call quality like? do you have to have 3g signal for it to work?
just general advice really...
any comments appreciated and many thanks in advance!

hi
i have the s2 from 3 for one year and i am happy with it.
most of the time its ok. some time they disconnect skype free and give you skype service with charge - you have to be carefull -jut check from time to time that you are connected to skype.
on top of it i connected an adapter - Rylwy - that connect my landline and another cell phone to skype than i am using this lines from the skype phone for free !!

I have a Unbranded Nokia N79 with a 3 Sim in it. I dowloaded the three version of skype online. ~planet 3 would not let me downloa dit as said it was an unsupported phone. Fortunatley found a version online.
When you see the contact on line you just then hit the dial button on your mobile. The phone then dials +4478383333888 (which is a free call).
This evening did a 3 Skype call to Skype (account in Spain) computer whilst a passanger in a car driving at 70mph. Quality brilliant as if I had phoned them direct to their lanline in Spain.
We have even done a Conference call (instigated form a computer) and involved THREE 3 Skype phone and another computer :so 5 people in the call. Quality again good.
I have set up mother-in-law to call Skype accounts from her landline using Mobivox. So rather than pay mobile call charges just pays a UK landline call. there was a slight delay at time in the hour phone call ~but who cares as it meant she could phone for free!! to a mobile 3 phone logged into Skype0 -
I've used Skype a bit, both on a '3' phone with Skype and on other devices (computer and an internet tablet). My experience is that often the sound isn't as clear as a "real" phone call. For UK landlines where calls are very cheap I wouldn't use Skype, for contacting other countries the savings make the lower quality acceptable.
The S2 doesn't have the feeling of quality you get from a £50 or £100 Sony Ericsson but unless you are a choosy phone user it's actually not bad.
Also consider getting it on PAYG, for lightish users the deals are good, particularly calls to other 3 users.
If you ever use a computer away from an internet connection I was very impressed with the S2 when I had to work on a computer belonging to a relative. It "just worked" as a broadband dongle.
One other point to consider, is the '3' coverage good where you are likely to use the phone ?
'3' works less well than other networks deep inside buildings.
If you can borrow one from someone I suggest trying it.0
