    Well........................................

The Motability cars come thru the dealer network like this:

The original selling dealer gets 1st chance to buy it. If they dont want it it gets offered to other dealers of the same mfr. If they dont want it they get offered to dealers like us - they get described as gold or platinum.

Gold means they need some minor work doing ie parking dents and scuffed wheels.

Platinum means they are fresh as a daisy.

The Motability cars that are bought from auction are the ones to avoid, as they are the ones that get totally twatted! More hits than the Beatles etc...!

We gave up buying MFL cars from the auction as they really were a total disgrace and you'd end up rebuilding them!

However, the ones bought from MFLdirect website are clean and tidy and they are the ones to go for!

love it must remember that when describing a car:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Just another question please - perhaps harvey could help - would your log book show that it was a Motability car and would that effect future sales price?

It won't have any real effect, its the car you're selling, not the V5. History is important though. Check it is COMPLETE.

& you might see a really clean example, BUT.... make sure you check the interior to see if it's had a deep clean valet (seats will still be damp in auction) Then beware, some users are potentially unwell & have poor bladder control. Or worse.

& I'm not being nasty, 'cos I said it before, any of us can become infirm at some stage of our lives.

Also, they still have widest choice of small automatics, if that was wahat you wanted.

By far the majority of disabled drivers are fully continent!

But do bear in mind that disabled drivers do tend to depend on their cars for very short runs. So it does mean that although the mileage may be low, they may be mostly short local journeys where the engine doesn't get chance to warm up.

But you could say the same for any low mileage car.

No, a motabilty car is only allowed a certain mileage over its 3 yr lease (36,000 AFAIK) over that, a cost per mile is charged, it use to be 8p, so if little Johnny is out ever night in it, the mileage clocks up. end result clock it back

Motability users are now permitted 60,000 miles over the 3 year lease period. It is 5p per mile over 60,000miles. Also for a wheelchair accessible vehicles the limit is 100,000 miles over 5 years.

I don't think you'll find too many in excess of the 60k miles though.

harvey bobbles is right - you see some fantastic examples of scrapes and dents on sone of these at auction. The best examples are snapped up by the dealers that sold them, they are serviced as they should be and very few have serious adaptions done to them. Majority are bought and used 100% of the time by relatives of the disabled person.

At the motab show you see a lot of high spec cars and convertables all available on the scheme.

I have took over 200 of these cars to auctions mainly BCA last year and most are in great condition. In most cases the owner has died and that is why they have been returned.I have never seen a great deal of hi spec cars and certainly never any convertible. The person has to pay extra for a high spec vehicle.

Vast majority of people dont want to pay any extra so are small well specced cars or low to medium specced bigger cars. Manufacturers use motability as a tap with special offers they can turn on and off each month to hit targets and move metal.

However most manufacturers have a motab scheme and pretty much anything and everything is available on it. I saw Mercedes, Saab, and Audi all represented when I went. Dont know how many they sell but the selection will make you chuckle.
