Problems with Paypal Protection- do i charge back via creditcard?

Hiya

Advice needed

Last August I bought 10 Computers from America and paid via Paypal

I had bought from them numerou times before and the american company had a 3000 plus feedback
I usually sold these on on Ebay

However the last order i did on August Never arrivied

I did a Paypal buyer protection to get my money back but paypal only awarded 280 pounds
Their reason as it ws multiple items and they will only pay for three.

I have been in various discussions to get the whole amount back.
To no avail

My paypal accouny is also the one i use for Selling so has very good feedback/rating

My question is do i pursue this further?

I was always taught a tip to pay any purchases via credit card- and laways transfer an account balance to your Bank account.
That way if one ever had problems they could do a charge back to paypal

American express are willing to do a chargeback against paypal as goods not arrived- but paypal say if i do this then I breach their T&C and my account will be locked and the £500 or so im owed will be contested.

I have heard of NCO debt collection harasing people etc and worried about what to do?

If i claim the money back- will it go against my credit record? Will i get MCO or debt hounmding me?

Has anyone else succesfully done something similar to me?

Other thing is if my account gets blocked- can i open a new paypal account? to continue selling on ebay

It sounds like you're talking about a lot of money. I'd take the risk of a chargeback for that reason.

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

I agree, I'd risk losing my paypal account anytime rather than lose real money.

You say last August? Will your credit card company allow you to do a chargeback this much later? Why has this dragged on so long, and what do the company you purchased them from say?

I have to agree its a bit late in the dy now be now filling for a charge back.
My company state 4 months then its too late.

I have successfully charged back to Paypal for £15. This was due to an item paid through paypal that was never recieved. Paypal paid out but kept £15 due to the seller having less than 98% feeback which then got converted to an ebay claim rather than paypal claim. I told paypal i wasnt accepting that and they just said their policy states...... and told them my right were a full refund and then did a charge back against paypal. this only took 2-3 weeks to come through.

i dont think paypal had a leg to stand on as legally they cannot keep the £15 even though its in their policy. The only thing paypal did was block my credit card from being used on my paypal account. So i just took out another credit card and opened a new paypal account.

Oh, I overlooked the 'last August' bit. That might make it more difficult then to get any help from your credit card company.

You are a lot more patient than me! I'd have been jumping up and down after a matter of weeks.

Well i have left it a bit as one of the reasons has been paypal have so called been investogating the matter and get cased reopend etc which was a waste of time

Xmas was a very busy time and i found that by not accepting paypal for selling affected my sales.

Paypal is just monopolised the scene in that buyers in some cases refuse to buy unless you accpet paypal or credit card

The majority of sales I did the trick of charging high postage and then offering free or a discount for using bank transfer

I have managed to get merchant services now and so can do without paypal.

Hence wy i am considering getting teh cash back-But just worried how it will affect my credit score?

re chargebacks-- They can be done up to two years after a purchase-- The reason i know is as a newly having mechant services- lots of conditions and pitfalls.

However merchants services are less likely to offer charge backs like paypal do and dont do it over silly things.

I think i will take the advice and just do it and see what happens

I'm not quite certain what you mean by this. It's up to the purchaser's credit card issuer whether it will institute a chargeback, not whichever company you are using for processing payments.

I agree with jenniferpa, any method that accepts credit cards is subject to chargebacks. The right of chargeback lies with the credit card issuer, so if you accept them you are liable.

Also, UKraj, can you please check your statement that the card issuer allows 2 years for a chargeback for non receipt. I had always understood that the time limit was much less than this for an ordinary consumer and others in the past on here have suggested time frames of about 6 months to a year max.

I can confirm that Lloyds Card services and Barclays who i went will allow a charge back up to two years for an item that is bought via phone or Mail order.

A big shock!! to me being a seller.

I have to keep proof of delivery and records for two years all items I sell just in case a chareg back ever happened for query fraud, item never received etc.

The only way I can avoid a charge back is if a customer collects directly and uses Chip & PIN at my premsies or uses my internet site Buts uses VERIFIED by VISA.-- This is a new service where when you are buying items on the net you have to type in your pin to buy goods- If done so- teh customer cannot charge back.
