Iphone insurance

I'm thinking of getting an iphone when my O2 contract is due an upgrade in February.

The dilemma I've got is that with having such a handset, it would be best practice to insure it. My recent record with hpones is not particularly good with one going through the wash which wasn't insured and a few years ago another landed in a bucket of water (this one was insured thankfully). I don't really want to pay out another huge monthly fee in insurance (a work colleague has paid £11 a month on Orange!!).

How much does it cost to insure an iphone with O2 on a monthly basis? Are there any independent monthly policies which cover the iphone and what are the costs?

Are there any 'stand-alone' policies out there? If so, how much are they?

I've been driving myself nuts looking around but thought it was best to get advice from the community on here before I officially go round the bend!

You can have your phone covered with your bank account for about £5 a month and they give you extra benefits too.. AA, Holiday insurance etc.
I would have used my own initiative if someone would have told me to!
  • Unfortunately the bank I'm with doesn't do that ype of cover (HSBC). Or at least I didn't think it did

  • Has anyone else got any ideas of insuring an iphone at a reasonable price?

  • Do you have personal possessions insurance? I have this with my home insurance. For £200 for the year it covers my house should anything happen to it and the contents in it including accidental damage. It also covers personal items out of the house up to £2000. Anything over that you need to name on the policy. The iPhone should be treated the same as a laptop, iPod etc.

Obviously if you don't have own your own home you wouldn't need the home insurance but you can still get contents only if you are renting. Check with your insurer before you get the phone to make sure they cover what you want. And check the excess too. You can make it as low as you want but will pay a little more.

Don't be misled by the in-store sales people who will tell that home insurance does not cover the iPhone. On its own it doesn't, you need the personal possession cover as well.
