I am bit overwhelmed with the amount of info and stuff I have to check to get a good deal so I thought it will be best to list my questions here and a kind MSE-er(s) can help me with the queries
I am currently with Pipex (was with Bulldog before Pipex took over) and am paying £20 for phone and unlimited broadband. The service is alright but in recent months I find that their broadband gets disconnected frequently during the evening hours. Also, I need a wireless router and when I called they said the best they can do is to sell one for £20.
From what I read so far these are my options and the queries I have
1) Tiscali - sounds really good for £19.99 with £100 cashback but
a) I was nearly going to go with this when I started reading up reports of bad service which has made me nervous. Is the service really that bad? Do they over charge and make it difficult to get it back? Is the broadband service bad? I have put in a poll with this to see what MSErs think
b) How do I get the "guaranteed" cashback from simplifydigital? Do they pay in to my account? I am with Quidco which also gives £100 cashback but it is not guaranteed?
c) I might also move in 6 months - will Tiscali charge for reconnecting in a new area?
2) O2 - recently got a O2 Simplicity package so I can get the discounted deal
a) since I have a pipex phone line do I have to switch over to BT to get this? If so, will BT charge to get reconnected to them?
b) Even BT charge for reconnection, if I move in 6 months will BT charge again when moving (O2 won't)?
c) no TV as with Tiscali - not a biggie but would be great to get Sky1
3) Any other deal?
a) My main thing is a reliable unlimited download broadband connection - phone line is not necessary for me as I use the mobile but I suppose it is necessary to get the broadband?
b) TV is not important but would love to get Sky1 and the ability to record tv episodes
Again any help will be much appreciated.

I am with Tiscali.
They HAVE made some mistakes with my account in the past (you really need to check the fine details of any contract). I think the Tiscali staff are the problem and not the actual technical service. I get good broadband speed and telephone service but have had some major problems with being given the wrong package and broadband speed.
The Tiscali TV deal is pretty good though as they are offering a free digital recorder with the deal too.0 -
I just signed up to bt on their 18 month contract so I got free connection (saving just over £120!). This deal is on until 31st December I believe.
Since I might only be staying in my current flat for 6 month I was keen to find out what charges I might incur if I move.
They told me that if I move to a property that already has a bt line I won't have to pay anything but if I move somewhere that doesn't have a line I'll have to pay the connection charge.
Hope that answers your question.I'm just waiting to get my line activated so I can sign up to O2 broadband.

Guys make sure you can get O2 LLU Broadband Otherwise you get O2 Broadband via Access which has poor speeds at the moment.
Check samknows - http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php to see if your exchange is LLU enabled.0 -
Thanks purpleskies - that DOES answer a question for me. Looks like I might have to do the same thing as going according to the current votes, Tiscali is not a good option - even though I am very temptedI have learnt that living life to the fullest gives you a much better high than alcohol or drugs !0

Just an update - looks like I cant get Tiscali anyway because I don't have a BT line - Pipex have taken my line off the BT grid apparently. So, my option would be to renew with Pipex or reconnect with BT and go with O2
Hoping more MSE-ers will see this over the weekend and be able to give more advice

Definitely go for the latter option. Dump Pipex if humanly possible. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
