Its not picking up your storage heater because its on a seperate circuit, or you have the sensor on the wrong lead. You need to be fitting it between where the power comes in before the meter. If you have an older system with a separate 'White' meter then you probably wont be able to do this.

I'm not sure what you mean by the "white meter" thing, I have a small box outside my flat that has an LCD display showing two readings.

Connected to this box are 4 thick cables. My energy monitor is connected to one of these.

I'll try changing the sensor to use another cable and see what happens

.....but what's the point in the instruction manual telling you to connect the device to "1 of the 4 cables" when from the sounds of it they operate on different circuits?

Okay so I changed the sensor to clip to a different wire and read my monitor this morning......it has definitely read my storage heater as it said I had used around 15kWh!

I'm going to leave it like this for a few days, hopefully the wire the sensor is attached to will pick up all my other electrical items as normal and it will reflect my actual energy usage now!

  • i tested the first british gas monitor by reading the main meter and reseting the monitor and found that the kw hours used was 20-25 % more than used so i sent it back the second monitor was still about as bad so i sent it back and tested an owl monitor which gave me the correct reading the british gas idea is good but the monitors seem to be sub standard

I got up this morning before 7 so thought I'd take opportunity to monitor it today. At 7am it read 13kw which is exactly units on my night time meter. Great it's accurate I thought. However checked about 12 and it was running 2 units ahead of the meter. Am going to keep eye and see how much more it runs out today.

    edit - by 3pm 4 units ahead.

I could never get mine to pick up storage heaters. It picked up all other night time activity, water, washing machine etc but there was 52 missing every night from storage heaters.
