Ebay item not arrived!!!

Hi all,

I bought a wooden train track for my 3 year old son for Christmas, from ebay. It was a buy it now and the seller had more than 1 for sale. I paid immediately by paypal. This all happened on 24 November. I received the usual emails from ebay and paypal to show I have paid and the money is out of my account.

The seller has 399 feedback, 100% positive, many in the last month, 6 months and the last year. But I have not received any correspondence from the seller.

No sign of the item today, and no reply to emails sent to them yesterday (2 Dec) and the day before. How long should I leave it before contacting ebay?

The seller has received no feedback since 29th November so it could be they are on holiday and others are also waiting for items.

What do you suggest?

  • I would contact Ebay now to be honest. They are usually quite good with things like this.

Raise a PayPal dispute - you may need to wait til 10 days are up (by my count it's 9 days now).

Don't spoil their feedback until it is obvious that you must.

Make sure there is nothing in yourspam folder. For preference use the eBay messaging system as that gets recorded in the eBay site and ask again.

Where on ebay do I go to contact them?

    You don't
    Use the PayPal dispute procedure
The eBay dispute process is geared towards sellers complaining about non-paying buyers. It is well hidden too.

log into paypal, click on the transaction details and there should be somewhere where you can raise a 'item not received' dispute.

Give them 2 days to respond and if they don't respond, escalate the claim. You're guaranteed your money back.

Under no circumstances close the dispute unless they are willing to refund you the whole amount.

You may elicit more knowledgeable responses at the Ebay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales forum.

(thats not to imply that the above responses aren't knowledgeable!)

Thanks kwikbreaks and Frozenace. I have raised a dispute. I have 123 positive feedback (100%) but this is the first time I have had an item not arrive. I guess it had to happen eventually. I'll keep you updated.

Has the seller confirmed despatch (check in My Account against the item)? If so it could be our old friend the post office.
Some buyers only post once a week, if so you've not really allowed long enough yet.
    What postal method was specified/offered?
If it was rec del, get the seller to confirm the tracking number.
Even eBay sellers have family crises, illnesses, computer failures...
If it doesn't turn up within the designated timescale commence the standard eBay dispute process as advised above.

The estimated delivery date was 27 Nov. What concerns me more is that they have not replied to any email. As I said in my dispute - I don't think 9 days without any communication is acceptable.

They have not confirmed dispatch. It is almost as if they have taken the money and then not bothered doing anything else. But there may be a reason for it so I haven't sent any feedback. And i'll wait till I find out how it goes first.

The resolution centre has done the trick. I have had a message

    My original message was

"I have tried to contact you on 2 occasions and not heard anything from you. The estimated delivery was 27 November. Please either send the item or refund the money or at the very least contact me. I do not think 9 days is reasonable without any contact."

    The reply

    "Good afternoon
Please accept my sincere apologies. I have had a very nasty virus which has wiped me out for 2 weeks. I am sure you can see from my feedback that I usually have excellent customer service, I am very sorry.
However, your item was despatched today and should be with you tomorrow.
    Kind regards"

    I have replied with

"Thank you very much for the reply. I have seen from your feedback that everything is usually very good. Sorry if I have come over a bit heavy handed. I'll let you know when the iterm arrives."

    So i'll wait and see.
