Council tax - avoiding- illegal?

Ok i have a question...please dont bite:o:o

My and my partner are looking for a flat.I graduated july so not used to council tax rules.

He is a full time medical student, i work ft earning min wage (therefore council tax exemption)

if the flat was placed just in his name I would avoid £60+ per month council tax payment. which i cannot afford really :(

but would i be committing an offence??

I am still on the electrol role at my parents home as i am back and too all week and stay home most weekends, my name is on there bill ( they pay the full lot anyway).

please reply asap . thank you :):)

Council Tax is based on the occupants not the names on the tenancy agreement. And really you know the answer to your own question :)

    That would be tax evasion.

You are only going to have to pay 75% of the council tax rate anyway.

Oh ok i didnt know that.

Single occupants get a 25% discount. You will count as a single occupant because, as a student, your boyfriend will be discounted.

People do lots of things to avoid all sorts - legally or otherwise.

So just your partner's name is on the tenancy agreement... How does that translate inoto making an application for a CT reduction? Someone would need to lie surely?

If you lie and you get caught... is it worth it?

You may also qualify for council tax benefit, but really if you can't afford to pay all bills you need to look for somewhere cheaper.

But if it's just OP's OH claiming it would be zero.

Temptation plus skintness can lead people to do the wrong thing all too easily.

I don't understand this post. If the student is the only occupant then yes, the liability is zero but that was not the case presented. OP was clearly an occupant.
