We currently have Freesat (use a Foxsat HDR box but upgrading to a PVR). Is there a way to get more channels for free (or cheaply?)
Sorry if this has been answered before but I can't find any easy references to it

Motorised dish and compatible receiver, not sure on prices but expect maybe £150 starting to over £300 for HD, i have seen an HD bundle somewhere for £300 that included 1m dish, tm 6800 hd receiver and motor and cabling.Norn Iron Club member No 3530

If your talking with your existing set up you can use it in "non Freesat" mode but it's not as friendly to navigate and not sure if any of the extra channels are worth it.0

Actually, I hadn't realised until yesterday that there was "non Freesat" mode. I might just take a look to see what's on offer but from what you said the extra channels probably aren't worth it.
Thanks for your time - much appreciated!I would love to be lazy but can't find the time:exclamati0 -
Yep, without buying any more equipment, you can use non-freesat mode, buried in the options somewhere, but not really worth it in my opinion. Well, maybe just once, to find LuxeHD, sit with your mouth open for a while at how great it looks, despite the rubbish programmes, then change back!0

I wouldn't dismiss all the channels out of hand.
I can access about 8,000 chanels. I agree that this includes shopping channels, pop music channels etc which I have no interest in. However I can watch most football and sporting events, which are on subscription here, free.
There are many movie channels (with English audio track) which are free. Other European countries show more variety shows on their channels rather than the endless cooking/makeover/auctions/soaps that we seem to get.
If you already have the dish and the receiver then you are only talking about £50 for a motor which attaches between the dish and the mast.0 -

Were talking about whats available at 28.2E. And motorising a mini dish is a bit of a pointless exercise given it wouldnt be big enough to pick up most Sats so were talking more then £50. I agree a good motorised set up is excellent but it's not for everyone, more the enthusiast and even then you still need subscriptions for most of the good channels.0 -

Mini dish isn't mentioned by OP, that's assumption.
You say "were talking about" if you mean "we" as in all the people contributing, then motorised dish is mentioned.
Everytime this topic comes up in this forum you take a very negative stance towards anyone who watches anything other than 28.2 transmissions.
Do you have a vested interest I wonder?0 -

I think the vested interest comment tells us this debate is already dead in the water be here goes anyway, lets see if we can drag it back up to a sensible level.
This is not an enthusiasts forum, it is a money saving one and I will assume a standard Sky/Freesat mini dish is the norm unless stated (if it wasnt I would assume a degree of knowledge not consistant with the question). The truth is that anytime someone says FTA you shout motorised dish. I will say again a motorised dish IS a great setup but it is not suitable for everyone and of no interest to 90% of the population. Again this is money saving and your advice everytime is to spash out £300 to £400 on something the majority do not want or need.
Now here is your challenge, seen as you have put your kneck out and made the statement. Find me one of my posts where I am totally anti 100% against anything but 28.2e?
I'm of to football so I will see what you come up with tomorrow.0 -

Care to tell us all where we can find all of these " free " movie channels.?
Oh and the " free " football, I assume these are all legal?0 -

I don't understand why wanting to increase the number of channels available, and therefore increase the choice of viewing classes a person as an "enthusiast" It's just another step from terrestial to freeview to freesat.
Many people already have most of the equipment, by adding a motor for approx £50.
Many of the posts on this part of the forum are from people looking for more channels for less money.0
