Car repairs under warranty that haven't worked

Hi there,
Wonder if anyone can help.....
I've had a recurring problem with a door lock on my Renault Scenic, which was under warranty until Sept. It's been into the Renault dealer three times to have the fault fixed, and each time it's remedied for a few weeks or months, then recurs.
Yesterday the door wouldn't open, meaning I had to clamber across the backseats to get my baby out!!
My question is, should I reasonably expect repairs to last? I would have thought that I should, and that if the problem hasn't been properly fixed and recurred again, that the manufacturers should mend it again at their expense - but not according to Renault, who want me to pay an investigation fee (at main dealer) and for the repair, and they may (out of goodwill) reimburse me some of the costs.
The fault is with the lock mechanism, I haven't misused or abused the car in anyway, so have no doubt the investigation would reveal a manufacturing fault....
Do I have any rights here?
Thanks very much for your help, from a hard-up on maternity leave mum!!

I would like to arrange for one of our Customer Service Managers to speak with you to discuss your experience and see what we can do to help.
So that I can do that, please send me an email at your convenience to eresponse@renault.co.uk please include the following information in the mail:
