Problems with new car purchase..... Reg Docs.... dodgy dealer!

That's another way pre-regs can get done, by the broker pretending to be a rental company enable them to get the cheap fleet deals but only if they keep the car for at least 6 months. They're still acting without the manufacturers knowledge.
One silver lining though, you can get as many speeding and parking tickets as you like and the broker will end up getting done.0 -

As far as you are concerned you are the registered keeper and are waiting for the seller to deal with the technicalities.
Sorry but I think this argument is a red herring I dont for a second think the police would charge you for this or your insurer refuse to pay out.
Your other option is to pay the extra to get it now. I bet you wont do that though. You cant have it both ways. The discount is based on this happening clearly.
WTH are you talking about? What is this "discount" and "have it both ways"? Ive paid for the car in full. There is no debt. Ive spoken to my insurance company who have confirmed that as I am not the registered keeper, I'm not insured. I agree, the police wouldnt charge me. (The V5 doesnt prove you own a car anyway - but te receipt I have would!)... However, are you willing to pay out for any prang when the insurance company "say no"? Not sure how much clearer I can make it... they've confirmed Im not insured as Im not the registered keeper.
Feel free to ask any further questions before jumping to strange conclusions that really have no relevance.0 -

Haha... I tried that threat with them! They said they would provide the police with the evidence that they dont have the car and the tickets would end up on my doorstep. I did say, its for him to prove who drove it - and many do drive thsi car and he simply laughed and said the police would persue me not them. Would be fun though! :rotfl:0 -

I presume you got the car at a reasonable discount?
If you want to play by the book and have it lovingly handed over with all the papers etc then you could always go to a dealer?
Sorry I'm not being more sympathetic but you really need to run through all these things before you part with your cash.
I have a lease car that I was told was covered for VED for the length of the lease. Have I got that part in writing.......hmm ....NO so I'm !!!!ed, plus the guy I dealt with doesn't work for the broker anymore and they are supposedly not the same company that arranged my lease because that company was wound up.
Get on with it or you will be the loser in the longterm.0 -

You got the car at the price because it was pre registered (obviously on terms). To get your V5 now means the car would have been more expensive.
Yes but have you asked them how much it will cost to ammend the insurance? Furthermore as far as you were concerned until you started your little investigation you were the registered keeper and the guidelines wouldnt have allowed them not to pay out.0 -
This may e of some interest:
link removed... wont allow me to post!!
Many thanks.... This bit is the beef...
The simple fact is that the dealer has decided to pre-register without the manufacturers knowledge and has sold it through a broker (usually) or a rental set-up without running it for the 3-6mths as a demonstrator, as he is supposed to do under his franchise contract.
The ONLY way he can stop you alerting the manufacturer to its early sale is to withold the logbook so you cannot apply to have your name added as the current owner.
Unfortunately it doesnt help me out in this plight. As I said, I can only insure the vehicle if I move it to another insurance company (direct line are NOT interested.) This unfortunately has an inpact. (a) cancellation fees, (b) becuase my other cars are with them, I wont be able to claim my FNCB discount with another insurer.0 -

O RLY.
So you think they have 2 prices? Yes, it was a discounted price. No I didnt see any problems with it. If you wish to gloat in some way about fools and money easily parted, feel free to do so. I've asked for a bit of advice on going forward. Not for my nose to be rubbed up the wrong way.Yes but have you asked them how much it will cost to ammend the insurance? Erm..... Yes I have asked my insurance company about my insurance. They dont insure if the car isnt in your name. I did say that at least twice now! And "my little investigation" as you put it, is purely because alarm bells rang. What insurance company do you use? Most I know of dont allow a little ignorance on matters like these change them into someone symathetic. ie Dont give any insurance comapny any reason not to pay you out... or thats exactly what will happen.0 -
I just phoned the guys on the link you posted. They confirmed what I'd said in respect of insurance (and that ignorance of not being the registered keeper would hold no water.). They also unfortunately weren't able to advise at all on the way forward.
Just lucky I have my old banger to fall back on in the meantime - though I'm gonna have to get the car home somehow this evening!0 -

Your status says "Fantastically Fervent MoneySaving Super Fan" - I'm shocked... given what you've said above. Do you only buy goods at full price?Sorry I'm not being more sympathetic but you really need to run through all these things before you part with your cash.

Wow... want to buy any prime Florida Real Estate? :rotfl:
You may take things laying down (going on the above), but I'll use whatever to fight back. DVLA is an option still open, as is my home insurance legal scheme (there to take action for contract issues - which this clearly is.)
Fact is, they claim they told me.. they didnt. They say Ive signed something agreeing to them holding the V5 for 6 months - I haven't. (V5 retention period may apply), does not suggest Ive consented to them holding the document for 6 months.0
